Program/Functional Manager

A national innovator and leader in clinical legal education, the clinical program at the Sturm College of Law – referred to as the “Student Law Office” – supports clinics in the fields of advancing social change, civil litigation, civil rights, community economic development, criminal law, environmental law, and immigration law and policy. The law school’s clinical programs provide opportunities for law students to be trained to become highly competent and ethical lawyers through faculty supervision and real-life client representation.

Position Summary

The Clinical Program Manager oversees the administrative functions of the Student Law Office, including day-to-day operations, budgeting and finances, student applications, registration and orientation, on-boarding employees, supervising an administrative assistant and work-study students, and otherwise operating the Office in an efficient and professional manner. The position serves as a liaison between the Student Law Office, the administration of the Sturm College of Law, and relevant University personnel.

Essential Functions

  • Monitoring and maintaining the operational budget of the Student Law Office and various clinic-specific budgets, processing monthly reports, approving case-related expenditures, and approving invoices, requisitions, and reimbursements.
  • Opening and closing cases in the client management system, undertaking conflict checks, and following appropriate policies relating to the retention and destruction of records.
  • Operating the Office’s case management database.
  • Managing the recruitment of students into the Office, including processing applications, scheduling student interviews, extending offer and waitlist letters, submitting registrations, facilitating student access to appropriate records and systems, and maintaining student records.
  • Coordinating orientation-related events relating to the Student Law Office, including food orders, reservations, audiovisual needs, and guest speaker requests.
  • Preparing and updating the policies and procedures of the Student Law Office, instruction guides, and forms.
  • Supervising one full-time administrative assistant and several work-study students.
  • Managing the recruitment and onboarding of fellows in the Christopher N. Lasch Fellowship Program.
  • Coordinating with colleagues in the Marketing & Communications Division to prepare newsletters and other updates relating to the Student Law Office.
  • Assisting clinical faculty with clinic-related events, including student swearing-in ceremonies, conferences, continuing legal education programs, and other clinic-related events and activities.
  • Undertaking other Clinic-related tasks, as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
  • 2-3 years of experience in a legal, non-profit, public interest, community service, or higher education office environment, providing administrative or coordination support
  • A strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity
  • A strong compliance orientation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multiple years of experience working in an office environment in the legal and/or higher education fields
  • Law degree or other relevant graduate degree in higher education, administration, or another relevant field

Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 9.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $55,000 – $62,000
