Position Announcement
The Program Manager will be responsible for the overall design, management, and implementation of a comprehensive fitness program for students, faculty, staff, and UVU community. This includes oversight and supervision of group fitness class and personal training programs and staff. Supports the Program Director of SLWC Operations in the day-to-day operations of the Student Life and Wellness Center and Bowling alley. Assists in the hiring, training, management, and scheduling of student employees.
Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develops existing and new fitness programming to offer for the Recreation and Wellness department by assessing the needs of the UVU community and SLWC participants. Works with Event Services and other campus partners to schedule facilities and events for fitness programming and the campus community. Oversees the recruiting, hiring, interviewing, supervision, and continued education and certifications for fitness instructors and personal training employees.
  • Actively market and promote fitness programming to the campus community by using social media and in person marketing campaigns. Develop, improve, research, and assess fitness and personal training programming and their effectiveness to offer high quality programming and improve areas where deficient. Stay current with fitness trends by being a part of or participating in national associations (NIRSA, ACSM, ACE, NCSA, & etc.) to keep programming relevant and in line with industry standards.
  • Assists the Program Director in the recruitment, hiring, training programs, and mentoring of all SLWC student employees and part-time staff. Develops trainings in employee on-boarding, customer service, facility management, cash handling, and conflict resolution for employees. Assists in the development, evaluation, and oversight of the policies and procedures for the facility and fitness programming offered.
  • Assist in the monitoring, tracking, and planning of budgets which includes tracking expenditures, payroll expenses, and revenue collected. Works with the program director to purchase equipment and supplies for events and programming offered and the SLWC and Bowling Alley facility. Researches and evaluates new software platforms for membership services, staffing, and personal training to improve efficiency and customer experience.
  • Provide customer service to SLWC members and guests by setting up memberships, renting lockers, answering general Recreation and Wellness as well as campus related questions. Serve as facility point of contact that collaborates with other campus entities to assist in the day to day operations of facility, facility rentals, and equipment maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, recreation management, or related field AND two years of supervisory experience in health, wellness, and recreation.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of aerobics/group exercise, individual fitness/exercise, and personal training programs
  • Knowledge of the operation and management of recreational facilities
  • Knowledge of risk management standards and practices in fitness programming and operations
  • Knowledge of fitness trends

Skills

  • Strong leadership, organization, verbal and written communication skills
  • Skills in planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive recreation fitness program
