What You Will Do
The Intelligence and Emerging Threats Program Office (GS-IET) enlists the Laboratory’s research and development capabilities to provide technical solutions to combat new and evolving national security threats. GS-IET is the primary Laboratory interface to the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) through DOE’s Strategic Intelligence Partnership Program (SIPP). Working with federal agencies in the IC, GS-IET coordinates programs for delivery of:
- technical solutions that counter new foreign technologies that could result in strategic and tactical advantages,
- intelligence to predict and/or prevent catastrophic threats executed by pathologic actions,
- improvements in technical security and surveillance measures, and
- solutions to enable rapid sharing and compositing of critical actionable intelligence
We are seeking a motivated customer-focused individual to provide high-level operational, programmatic, and administrative support in a classified working environment. The successful candidate will serve as the first point of contact for the Program Office. Functionally, the Professional Staff Assistant (PSA) will take guidance from the Program Office Manager/Office Lead. There is frequent collaboration with LANL DIR/ALD/PD office staff. While working in a team environment, the successful candidate must also be able to work independently with minimal supervision, establish and balance priorities, be capable of handling personnel and sensitive matters with tact and discretion, to effectively support the Program Office. Specific duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide professional support for specialized functions related to IET Programs, which can include high-level government visits requiring coordination with the LANL Protocol Office.
- Under supervision of the Program Director or the Deputy Program Director, coordinate coverage for IET Program Office during out of the office occasions.
- Track contract commitments and procurements.
- Routinely execute project procurements and occasionally seek approval to acquire specific non-routine items (must be able to maintain Super Designated Procurement Representative qualification).
- Perform project cost monitoring and control activities, and coordination and execution of operational, logistical and administrative tasking.
- Coordinate logistics, scheduling, announcements, and administrative facilitation of business, operational, and/or programmatic meetings and/or conferences.
- Assist in tracking and reporting IET Office progress in business, operational, and/or programmatic goals and objectives.
- Maintain a professional office atmosphere and demonstrate initiative, versatility, accuracy, tact, and professional discretion when dealing with matters sensitive to national security.
- Provide expert calendar management for Internal and External collaborations by Program Directors/Program Managers by coordinating commitments.
- Serve as point of contact and liaison with customers and sponsors as well as with senior management offices (internal/external) and personnel regarding issues and policies related to the Program Office.

- Ability to work independently while maintaining excellent quality in daily operational work, as well as the fine-tuned skills of organizing, prioritizing, and following through to completion of multiple projects.
- Experience assuming responsibility for projects from inception to completion, including reporting on project results.
- Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, verbal, and written).
- Ability to effectively manage multiple complex calendars.
- Experience providing professional support for complex travel.
- Experience completing complex procurements.
- Experience coordinating high-profile meetings and events.
- Ability to work effectively and calmly under pressure of multiple deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing priorities.
- Dependability and reliability as proven through good attendance and quality of work.
- Ability to work well as a team player.
Clearance requirements: Q /SCI, ability to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proven competence in providing high-level administrative support in a busy office environment, including interfacing with all levels of personnel.
- Experience working in a highly classified environment such as a Vault Type Room (VTR) or Sensitive Classified Information Facility (SCIF).
- Experience in website maintenance and basic design.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 – Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q/SCI(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Term position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.
