Pay Range
$104,220 – $134,976 Annually for the 337.1 level
$126,120 – $163,344 Annually for the 339.2 level
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We have an opening for a West Firing Area Operation Associate to bring up Site 300 Firing Bunker 850 and establish operations in support of ongoing Global Security programmatic work. You will be responsible for oversight, technical direction, and execution of experiments at B850, ensuring necessary work instructions and analyses are completed, maintained, and used as required to conduct safe, secure, effective, and efficient operations of firing activities. This position is in the Facilities and Operations Support Division supporting the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Principal Directorate.
This position will be filled at either the 337.1 or 339.2 level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
You will
- Provide technical oversight and leadership to successfully field experiments at the S300 bunkers and other locations.
- Organize and execute logistical aspects of day-to-day operations and specific experiments.
- Notify and report to the Facility Manager and other laboratory managers, events that have environmental, safety, health, security or quality significance, and assist in investigation and corrective actions for such events.
- Implement and improve customer-specific facility training and development programs.
- Act as Responsible Individual (RI) or Alternate RI for work control documents e.g., Hazard Control Plans and/or Work Permits.
- Promote and support plans to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities, at the 339.2 level
- Respond and manage actions from internal and external assessments.
- Plan and direct personnel resources for multiple projects/jobs.
- Act as the Bunker Operations Manager and/or Facility Manager in their absence.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- BA/BS in engineering technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Demonstrated technical expertise and advanced operational skills for utilizing robotic devices and other bomb disposal equipment.
- Experience with explosive operations, improvised explosive hazards, or identification of explosive devices and neutralization strategies.
- Experience with project planning, budgeting, and resource planning.
- Demonstrated ability in assembling and directing teams to complete specific projects or resolve specific problems in a safe and secure manner.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, sound judgment, and ability to approach and resolve difficult issues using creative problem-solving skills and decision-making techniques.
- Demonstrated advanced verbal, written, feedback and presentation communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability/commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in the workplace.
Additional qualifications at the 339.2 level
- Highly advanced operational experience fielding x-ray systems, robots and bomb defusing equipment.
- Experience with public safety responses to be enacted around bomb or WMD events.
- Significant experience with project planning, budgeting, and resource planning.
- Advanced leadership and team-building skills, sound judgment, and ability to approach and resolve difficult issues using creative problem-solving skills and decision-making techniques.
- Significant experience in identifying and analyzing hazards and developing and implementing effective controls for unique experimental activities.
Qualifications We Desire
- Advanced experience leading Explosive Ordinance Disposal and/or Hazardous Devices teams in DOD or Law Enforcement applications.
- Completion of DOD Explosive Ordinance certification or Hazardous Devices School.
- Demonstrated ability to Instruct military, police, and other first responders on appropriate responses to ensure public safety during energetic material/explosive events.
- Demonstrated knowledge of LLNL policies and procedures and ES&H requirements, and DOE regulations, national codes and standards, and administrative relationships or demonstrated ability to work in highly regulated environment.

Site 300
Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis ).
Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
