Job Summary:
The Athletic Training Professional Intern is a full-time employee under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Athletic Training. This internship has been designed to give professionals an opportunity to grow in leadership development, administrative experience, and support patient care in an interdisciplinary college healthcare environment. They will provide athletic training services to a variety of students on campus including a focus on the general student population and sport club athletes. This position will have a strong emphasis on education and promotion of services. The Athletic Training Professional Intern will gain experience in working with a diverse group of students on campus, take on responsibilities in coordinating athletic training care for sport club events, and will support the mission, vision, and values of Rec Well.
Responsibilities:
Arranges logistics, provides broad administrative oversight, and implements programmatic changes for one or more recreational programs to efficiently provide a broad range of recreational services to the institutional community. Develops marketing and communication materials for promotion to students, staff, and customers; and assists with recreational program staff recruitment and development.
- 25% Coordinates logistics for events and programs
- 10% Develops targeted communication plans and materials based on established goals
- 15% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised operational policies and procedures
- 25% Assists in implementing the staffing resource allocation plan including hiring, training, and supervision
- 5% Prepares and monitors budgets and purchases expenditures as needed
- 5% Engages in the Rec Well professional internship development curriculum, all staff meetings, divisional committees, and other professional development responsibilities and opportunities.
- 15% Provides athletic training services to the general student population
Tasks:
- Deliver athletic training services to the general student population at UW-Madison with occasional evening hours and within a clinical setting alongside primary care providers
- Provide medical coverage at select sport club and intramural events. Events are primarily scheduled over the weekends during the academic year.
- Act as a preceptor to UW-Madison Master’s in Athletic Training Program students.
- Assist in emergency training for heat related illness, injuries on ice, and lacrosse helmet removal with student & professional staff members.
- Provide training to Sport Club members & staff on sports medicine and injury prevention.
- Follow up with students injured in Rec Well facilities or at Sport Club events and connect them with campus medical resources.
- Educate the general student body on Athletic Training Services and promote athletic training services on campus.
- Choose a “Focus Project” based on individual interests within the profession. This will help to gain skills and perform research on a particular initiative that will have a direct impact on Rec Well Athletic Training and UW-Madison Students.

Education:
Required, Bachelor’s Degree
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited Athletic Training Program (by start date)
Qualifications:
– Current or eligible BOC Athletic Training certification (by start date).
– Ability to attain a Wisconsin Athletic Trainer License.
– Adult & Pediatric First Aid, CPR, AED certification or ability to attain it within the first 30 days of start date.

Terminal appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended based on need and/or funding.

$32.00 HOURLY

Additional Information:
– Academic year internship is limited-time employments lasting 10 months or 1,200 total hours
– Internship dates are approximate and will run August 2023 through May 2024
– Intern will be compensated at a rate of $32.00/hour for an average of 30 hours/week
– Intern will be allotted time off for university breaks (approximately four weeks unpaid)
– This position is eligible for healthcare benefits
– Continuing Education funds of $900 included
– Housing, transportation and other benefits not included
