The Development Associate will assist in the site origination and development of solar and solar + storage projects connected to the distribution system (1-20 MW) for ENGIE Distributed Solar and Storage’s portfolio across the United States. They will also assist the Project Developers in efforts to forge relationships with landowners, community leaders, utilities, and environmental organizations. An ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills and an aptitude for juggling a variety of simultaneous tasks, all while demonstrating a positive and professional attitude.
This position can sit in Houston, TX or Chicago, IL and will report to the Senior Project Developer. This position is open to a hybrid scheduled of both in-office and work-from-home days.
What you’ll do:
- Support development activities of distributed scale solar and solar+storage throughout the development life cycle from feasibility to the start of construction
- Coordinate with internal and external subject matter experts to conduct diligence of early to mid-stage solar and solar + storage projects
- Direct development partners to originate and acquire new projects in key markets; support negotiations on acquisition and partnership agreements
- Opportunistically source and evaluate greenfield project acquisition targets
- Early-stage project goal setting; maintains schedules and deadlines
- Creates and assigns tasks for Engineering and Project Management teams
- Work with Development team to pursue and meet submittal deadlines for deliverables
- Ensures that ENGIE is following internal pre-contract project procedures
- Responsible for data management of client and updating relevant project details in ENGIES’s CRM
- Assist Project Developers with evaluating suitable sites, defining and managing project development schedules and zoning/permitting processes
- Assist Project Developers in procurement of services required to perform technical diligence on projects
- Engage with landowners, community leaders and environmental organizations to provide information throughout the development process
- Support and assist review and investment committee processes
- Participate and supports in project financings, project hand-offs and closing processes
- Assist with other development tasks as assigned
What you bring:
- A minimum four (4) year degree with a focus in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Political Science, or a related field preferred
- A minimum of one (1) year experience, with an interest in renewable energy
- Conscientious, detail oriented, and highly organized
- A proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint; CRM tools, preferred
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively individually as well as with a team
- General understanding of renewable energy market trends and the resulting impacts on solar a project development
- Results-oriented professional with the ability to work independently within a large matrixed organization while effectively interfacing with the various cross-functional employee groups
- Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving ability and strong analytical skills while being able to work effectively individually and as a team
- Ability to thrive in quickly changing environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Superior verbal and written communication skills and high level of attention to detail with the ability to present to a wide range of audiences, including landowners, potential off takers, government officials, and corporate leaders
- Understanding of financial models and basic financial principles

- Ability to use company issued computer and travel to conduct site visits
- Capable of using proper lifting procedures or equipment usage needed when involved in lifting up to 50 lbs

- Salary Range: $69,275-176,670 USD annually
- Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
