Project Development Coordinator for Education and Wildlife

The Teaching & Learning Support Unit (T&LS) is a part of the Education & Wildlife Division in Public Programs at NYC Parks. This unit collaborates with staff throughout the Agency on programming development, resources and partnerships that foster public understanding of the value of urban parks and trails. Through this work, the Unit aims to transform passive park users into active park advocates.

Major Responsibilities
• In collaboration with the Director of Teaching & Learning Support and other high-level staff, and with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, assist in the development of informal learning opportunities and resources that translate agency priorities and the practice of urban park and trail management for a public audience.
• Research strategic partnership opportunities within New York City’s educational community, including but not limited to sister agencies, cultural institutions, community organizations and environmental non-profits.
• Support internal professional development in informal teaching & learning via trainings, resource creation and sharing of best practices.
• Maintain knowledge of current trends in informal teaching and learning, including but not limited to experiential, inquiry and place-based learning.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.

Preferred Skills

1. Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental/ STEM education or instructional design preferred.
2. Familiarity with current trends and best practices in environmental education/place-based teaching and learning.
3. Demonstrated ability in curriculum development and delivery of informal education programs.
4. Ability to perform in a collaborative work environment.
5. Strong project management skills.
6. Excellent oral/written communication skills.
7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
8. Valid New York State driver license.
