Our diverse set of assets includes recreational facilities, nature centers, historic buildings and structures, golf courses, athletic fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, public pools, public restrooms, retaining walls and nearly 14 miles of beaches.
Major Responsibilities
• Under direction of the Deputy Administrator of Randall’s Island Park, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment perform a wide range of complicated, detail-oriented tasks for the Operations’ division.
• Review and process special event application permits for over 15 heavily used permittable picnic and event spaces on Randall’s Island using CEMS (Citywide Event Coordination and Management System).
• Aid applicants with identifying park locations and Parks’ safety protocols to ensure successful events.
• Assist with permitting the over 65+ athletic fields as needed.
• Work closely with supervision to prepare and follow up on correspondence such as: Incident and Accident Reports, sign orders, EZ pass requests, biweekly and special events schedules, etc.
• Provide support to division leadership throughout the seasonal hiring process; sort applicants, set up interviews and assist with compiling hiring documents and processing.
• Answer internal and external phone calls; provide information to other divisions, staff and patrons as requested.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and the public and ensure all requests and concerns are resolved.
• Assist supervision with other special projects as needed.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.
Preferred Skills
1. Advanced proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
2. Knowledge of Parks’ Asset Management Parks System (AMPS) and Knowledge of Citywide Event Coordination and Management System (CEMS) is a plus.
