Project Engineer I Transmission and Distribution

Summary:

Reporting to the Project Engineer Lead, the Project Engineer will focus on design, schedule, and procurement management of utility scale high voltage substation and transmission line projects. This is an office-based role with some travel expected to project locations, client offices, and other RES offices.

Engineering

  • Provide excellence in the management and delivery of the project’s technical deliverables, in-line with the client’s expectations.
  • Perform review of designs provided by Engineer of Record for compliance to technical specifications/requirements.
  • Provide explanation of variances, and early warning of potential variances to Project Manager.
  • Seek opportunities for value engineering and efficiencies in design.

Procurement

  • Provide technical evaluation of proposals from material suppliers to support procurement.
  • Assist Procurement with coordination of product and shop drawings submittals to the Engineer of Record for approval and client acceptance.
  • Identify and quantify potential risks, contract clarifications, and exclusions.
  • Tracks equipment during manufacturing and delivery to support site team.

Construction

  • Set-up and manage technical documentation, drawings, specifications, submittals, and transmittals within the document control system (Procore).
  • Ensure that all superseded drawings, specifications, and other construction documents are marked as such, removed from the active construction and replaced with current versions.
  • Manage and control the generation, issuance, resolution, and close-out of requests for information, technical enquiry forms, and transmittals/submittals.
  • Provide feedback to Project Manager to support continuous improvement.
  • Attend work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
  • Complies with the Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct and Company Policies & Procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Present, support, and lead-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
  • Generate the project Plan Of the Day (POD) and visual progress trackers from templates for field operation tracking.
  • Coordinate and manage the preparation, baselining, and updating of engineering, and vendor schedules so that they are aligned with, and support, the project schedule.
  • Liaise with client, engineering teams, subcontractors, and vendors at the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Upkeep design change log for periodic distribution to the Project Manager.
  • Setup and coordinate technical design review meetings.
  • Solicit quotations, review proposals, make recommendations to PM, track orders to site.
  • Support developing projects to complete all required permitting activities before commencement.
  • Setup and coordinate Safety through Design review meetings.
  • Complete other duties as assigned an not outlined in additional responsibilities..

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Mechanical/Civil/Electrical Engineering.
  • Quality assurance processes.
  • Ability to travel 5-15% domestically.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s license.
  • Functional competencies include building strategic partnerships, teamwork, communication, prioritization, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 or more years of experience.
  • Project Scheduling System (P6, MS Project).
  • 1 year or more in reading prints and drawings, and taking off quantities, creating logical and resource-loaded project schedules, planning and task direction.
  • 1 or more years’ construction experience.

Anticipated base salary range: $65,000 to $75,000

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
