Position Summary
As part of the GSE’s Office of Innovation and Technology, the Project Management Specialist (75% FTE) is responsible for supporting the Learning Design Challenge and its educational programming, empowering student teams from across campus in 1) applying principles from the learning sciences and human-centered design, 2) prototyping and testing innovative learning solutions that use AI, AR & VR, IOT, robotics, gamification, learning analytics, wearables, haptics, and other emerging technologies, and 3) the development of sustainable educational technology projects as for-profit businesses, non-profit organizations, social enterprises, and/or academic research. The candidate selected for this position will work closely with the Director of the Learning Design Challenge in the continuing design and development of this programming, with support from faculty, researchers, industry experts, technologists, and student interns. The Project Management Specialist will take a key role driving impact through the continuing development of our mentoring programs, cross-campus teambuilding events, external partnerships, asynchronous learning resources, and biannual learning design competitions.

Core duties will include:
- Work with the Program Director to develop project objectives, review project plans and proposals, identify responsibilities, and calculate time frames and sequences for the continuing development of the Learning Design Challenge, supporting students from across the Stanford campus in formation of cross functional teams working to design and develop sustainable educational technology projects.
- Perform project management oversight of the Learning Design Challenge and its component parts, including its synchronous and asynchronous learning programming, mentorship programming, external partnerships, external pitch events, and biannual cross-campus design competitions.
- Working with Director, support wide recruitment of academic experts, industry experts, mentors, and judges; maintain database and support matchmaking for speaking events, mentoring of specific teams, and orientation and support for numerous judges serving on panels.
- Oversee, coordinate, and perform technical aspects of the programming, including the organization of cross-campus meetups, prototyping and user-test events, hackathons, practice pitch events, and final pitch events, along with multiple judging panels to identify award winners at different levels.
- Support the Director’s work with student teams to apply principles from the learning sciences and human-centered design in prototyping and testing potential solutions using AI, AR & VR, IOT, robotics, gamification, learning analytics, wearables, haptics, and other emerging technologies.
- Support development of multiple partnerships with accelerators and other programs (e.g., StartX) that provide opportunities and pathways for students to sustain their educational technology projects as for profit businesses, nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and/or academic research.
- Working with Director, support development of robust asynchronous learning materials and interactive activities, including videos and follow-up exercises for students across campus who wish to compete but cannot add the classes; support students in recording video presentations and conducting asynchronous peer reviews.
- Review, evaluate, and monitor program costs, including awards, honoraria, and recruiting and promotional events (demo days, poster events, etc.), along with internal resource allocations, (internal photographer, videographer, IT support, etc.)
- Ensure the preparation and communication of project documentation, including published awards criteria, awards terms and conditions, distribution and collection of online and written student forms, and tracking of awards and disbursements.
- Contribute to communication planning and efforts by tracking student achievement, along with digital artifacts of student success (promotional videos, presentations, participation in panels, press clippings, follow-on awards, and follow-on funding).

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a combination of education and experience, and two years of directly related experience performing responsibilities similar to those listed above or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Polished written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to productively contribute to cross-functional teams.
- Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects.
- Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.
In addition, preferred requirements include
- Knowledge and familiarity with human-centered design, the learning sciences, innovation, entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship.
- Knowledge of AI, AR & VR, robotics, IOT, gamification, learning analytics, wearables, haptics, and other emerging technologies in their application to teaching and learning.
- Experience working with teams in development of advanced learning tools and environments, blending asynchronous and synchronous components.
- Experience leading sessions and organizing student work in a classroom.
- Demonstrated capacity to learn new technologies quickly.
- Experience working with multimedia tools (e.g., audio and video production, editing, etc.).
This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures.
The expected pay range for this position is $79,000 – $100,000 per annum. “The actual pay will be pro-rated based on the 75% FTE.” Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
