I. POSITION GOAL
Coordinates the Center of Excellence, including the elder abuse forensic center. The forensic center is a multidisciplinary team of social service, law enforcement, protective services, legal and health professionals tasked with reviewing and making recommendations for complex elder abuse cases in Los Angeles County. The Center of Excellence also provides training on elder abuse topics to Adult Protective Services personnel and multidisciplinary team members.
II. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Center of Excellence
- Provides oversight of the day-to-day operation of the Forensic Center.
- Reviews and screens referrals to the Forensic Center for appropriateness.
- Consultation and referral provided for cases deemed inappropriate for presentation at the Forensic Center, when applicable.
- Assists Adult Protective Services or other referring agencies or County departments in preparing the cases to the Forensic Center team.
- Prepares agendas for weekly meetings and distributes agendas to key personnel before the meetings.
- Plans and facilitates weekly Forensic Center meetings. Observes the time limitations of each case. Ensures group agreements are followed during case discussions.
- Keeps minutes/notes to summarize each team member’s recommendations and action plan.
- Informs team members of their responsibilities in each case and record any new information reported.
- Distribute and follow up on team member action plans.
- Event planning and coordination for elder and dependent adult abuse training.
- Plans and implements education and training activities.
- Serves as liaison between the Forensic Center and partnering agencies.
- Oversee aspects related to presentations and events, including development, setup, and implementation.
- Know city and county agencies that are part of the elder abuse intervention network and secondary agencies that can support elder abuse survivors.
- Increase awareness of the Forensic Center through outreach partnerships with other agencies.
- Attend agency and other required meetings.
- Maintain tracking of program activities.
- Plan, prepare, and implement program activities as assigned.
- Assist with grant administration.
- Creates and ensures successful delivery of program outcomes and goals.
- Various administrative duties as needed.
III. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Due to changing program demands, funding source expectations, and changes in agency policy, all staff may be expected to perform other duties as assigned. Supports coordination and supervision of student internships.
IV. POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred, in social work, gerontology, public health, human services, social science, administration, education, health science, health care planning, public health, behavioral science, law, medicine, or a related field.
Experience
- At least two years of experience in social work, gerontology, public health, or related fields.
- At least two years of experience in database management, data collection, and project monitoring.
- A minimum of 1 year facilitating professional meetings.
- Professional experience coordinating and managing projects with multidisciplinary external partners.
- Two years of related experience (voluntary or paid) in healthcare, gerontology, investigations, mediation, and negotiation is strongly preferred.
Other Requirements
- Strong time management and data organization (spreadsheets, database management) skills.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Windows, Word, Outlook, and Salesforce.
- Ability to interface/relate well to the public, all levels of staff, and other professionals.Reliable transportation
V. Constraints
This position is funded in part by the County of Los Angeles Aging & Disabilities Department. Termination of all or part of these funds at any time during the funding period may affect the agency’s continued ability to fund this position.
VI. WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is in the Long Beach or West Covina office of WISE & Healthy Aging. Travel throughout Los Angeles County is required.
- The employee will be expected to ensure that field offices are secure when leaving the premises.
- The employee may be expected to maintain office equipment.
