Project Manager – Datacenter Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) Strategic Initiatives

Within CO+I, the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) organization is responsible for global datacenter engineering, procurement, construction, cost and planning execution, delivering IT capacity to Microsoft customers worldwide.

We are seeking a Project Manager – Datacenter Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) Strategic Initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic initiatives across the EPC organization, including project management of initiatives to improve speed, reliability, safety, and quality of hyperscale datacenter construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives that align with the organization’s mission and vision, related to Datacenter Engineering, Procurement and Construction.
  • Drives project initiation for projects of high complexity (e.g., lean construction, advanced work packaging, etc.) by driving commitment of delivery resources, assigning resources across workstreams
  • Leads process design and the development of business outcomes for complex processes that span multiple business functions to assess process performance.
  • Accountable for project execution by utilizing advanced knowledge of project management tools and methodologies in accordance with compliance and controls.
  • Balances needs across projects in challenging situations (e.g., scarce technical resources) and collaborates with other groups
  • Manages partnerships by addressing pain points, and collaborates with business partners to identify alternative solutions and options to resolve challenges
  • Develops detailed project management plan to drive predictable delivery for large and/or complex projects, leveraging expertise and experience to drive scope, resources, and Microsoft project schedule in alignment and collaboration with customer plan
  • Establishes clear expectations and accountabilities (e.g., reconfirm scope, Responsible-Accountable-Consulted-Informed matrix) with all project team members and stakeholders for teams of high complexity by leading internal and external kick-off meetings
  • Proactively engages broad set of internal and external stakeholders, including those who are impacted by project scope/outcome, but not directly customer stakeholders) and engages subject matter experts in holistic planning activities, including team validation.
  • Manages finances for projects with large scopes and budgets by balancing funding and resources across workstreams
  • Manages communications with senior stakeholders on project health, issues, and financial performance for large and/or complex deals throughout entire project lifecycle, tailoring communications to the audience, anticipating stakeholder requirements and adapting the plan accordingly.
  • Establishes formal rhythms to ensure tracking and maintenance of customer deliverables and collect and report status with all important stakeholders.
  • Drives timely project closure by ensuring completion of project sign off tasks and drives incremental process improvement by reflecting on and broadly sharing lessons learned (e.g., leading transformative projects, sharing stories with executives, developing case studies).
  • Contributes across domains, regions and/or world-wide levels to share knowledge, support others (e.g., Ready), and impact industry. Drives development and delivery of readiness programs (e.g., workshops, conferences).

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 8+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 8+ years management experience (e.g., people, project, process, vendor, change) experience.
  • 8+ years experience in any of the following: Global datacenter engineering, procurement, construction, cost and planning execution, delivering IT capacity.
  • 8+ years experience in project management.
  • Experience working in the construction industry.

Background Check Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years experience in project management
  • Experience working in a complex long cycle projects-based business.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from conception to completion.
  • Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve outstanding results.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and external partners.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and make sound decisions.
  • Experience working in the construction industry
  • Experience in data center construction field
  • PMP or other relevant certifications preferred.

Business Program Management IC6 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 – $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 – $292,200 per year.
