The Project Manager will be supporting and overseeing a portfolio of strategic projects and initiatives for regional operations in San Gabriel Valley. This role will be responsible for performing moderately complex activities under limited supervision as directed by the Senior Director or Project Manager, Senior within the region’s Project Management Team. The Project Manager will assist management in ensuring that project design, goals, and objectives are accomplished within specific deadlines and timeframes. This role will be highly collaborative with key stakeholders and Group and IPA operators – providing support in projects, pilots, and initiatives integral to the business. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, a solid communicator, organized, process oriented, and able to perform with limited supervision.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate Optum’s commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every internal and external customer
  • Oversees all aspects of the project management cycle including scope planning, scope definition, activity sequencing, activity duration estimation, schedule development, resource planning, project plan development and maintenance, risk management, reporting, implementation, measures development, and project wrap-up
  • Manages relationships, communications and expectations with the project executive, sponsor, and relevant stakeholders
  • Develops project plans; clearly defines the project objectives, scope and strategies
  • Tracks team progress and project risks regularly; conducts data validation checks and effectively troubleshoots all issues and barriers
  • Identifies potential project risks and implements appropriate courses of action to address project slippage and develops strategies to mitigate future risks
  • Works to ensure that significant gaps and overlays do not exist across projects, efforts are combined when appropriate, and the timing and sequence of projects are appropriate
  • Balances a multitude of projects ranging from low to moderate complexity. Showcases ability and discernment to compartmentalize competing priorities
  • Reports status regularly and escalates issues as appropriate to Manager and project sponsors
  • Utilizes standard processes, tools, methodologies and presentation templates including project timetables, progress reports, tracking, and report outs
  • Produces project-related communications including online reports, minutes, agendas, action items, and records of team decisions
  • Helps ensure that key decision makers are involved to the appropriate degree in the appropriate aspects of the project
  • Conducts and leads both formal and informal presentations to stakeholders
  • Assists in planning and coordinating with ongoing company projects as needed in order to maximize effectiveness of all related projects
  • Exercises analytical abilities as needed for correspondence, tracking, and report-out.
  • Works with Project Manager, Senior to promote effective team dynamics and provide performance feedback
  • Uses, protects, and discloses Optum patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4 – year college – Degree in Business, Project Management, Public Health, or Health Care Administration
  • 2+ years of experience in Project Management
  • Solid PC-based business software skills (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, Visio) and other business tools (Power Query, Power BI, SQL, Tableau, Smartsheet)/
  • Solid ability to collaborate with senior leadership and other department directors/managers to define business process issues, analyze operational efficiencies, implement creative solutions, and measure delivery of service and products
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret qualitative and quantitative analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • 1+ years background in healthcare industry
  • Demonstrated skills working on and managing a variety of complex projects, designing solutions and handling direct customer contact
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and be a self-starter
  • Ability to work well with individuals in all levels of the organization
  • Ability to perform as an effective leader and team player in a highly collaborative environment
  • Ability to function with little supervision
  • Ability to prioritize all activities under the project

California Residents Only: The salary range for California residents is $67,800 to $133,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
