Public Works currently has a vacancy for the position of Project Manager I (5502) within our Infrastructure Design and Construction Division.

The Infrastructure Design and Construction Division
The Infrastructure Design and Construction Division of San Francisco Public Works, led by the City Engineer, provides engineering planning and design services, project management and construction management services for a range of capital improvement projects supporting the City’s streets and infrastructure. In addition, our Bureau of Street-use and Mapping, which includes the office of the County Surveyor, ensures that City sidewalks and streets are safe and accessible by permitting and inspecting the use of the public right of way and is responsible for records of survey, lot line adjustments, mapping subdivisions and condominium conversions.

Job Description

As a Project Manager I, you will represent San Francisco Public Works on street resurfacing projects as part of the City Street Resurfacing Program. You will oversee the planning, design, construction and close-out phase of each micro-surfacing (and associated curb ramp contracts). You will also use the City Paving Management Mapping System to evaluate the condition of the City network roadways and pavement features such as longitudinal cracks, transverse cracks, alligator cracks, edge cracks, potholes and rutting. In addition, you will manage and coordinate the street paving component related to the multi-agency Geary Bus Rapid Transit Improvement Project and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). Finally, you will oversee the planning, design, construction and close-out phase of the Innes Avenue Rebuild project.

Important and Essential Duties:
As a Project Manager I, your duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervising professional and technical engineering personnel, consultants and other related staff engaged in the planning, design, and construction of infrastructure projects.
  • Analyzing work-hour proposals and budgets.
  • Designating tasks, monitoring project teams, and determining resources necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Facilitating contract negotiations and amendments, along with resolving claims and disputes.
  • Supervising the preparation of technical environmental reports and other documentation, designs, drawings, specifications, and cost and quantity estimates for necessary labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Analyzing and solving complex engineering problems to ensure compliance with regulatory and performance standards and specifications.
  • Writing, reviewing, and approving departmental correspondence, reports, and other related documents.
  • Conducting meetings and making presentations to committees, commissions, approval agencies, clients, and the public.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education, training, and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain this would be:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, engineering, or planning plus four (4) years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience,

OR

2. Bachelor’s Degree in another field plus six (6) years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project,

OR

3. Eight (8) years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project,

OR

4. California registration as a professional engineer or architect.
