And our Corporate Real Estate team is on the front lines of procuring, designing and developing spaces at all our hubs, stations and city locations across the world. From airport affairs and business services to planning and development, this team is responsible for all our leases and major construction and renovation projects, system wide.

Key Responsibilities:

The Project Manager II is responsible for facility and infrastructure related construction projects from planning through activation in accordance with corporate policies, established standards and governing regulations and requirements. The successful candidate will lead several (10-15) projects that are typically in the range of $100K to $20 million.

The leader in this role will collaborate with airport authorities as required, to ascertain, understand and collaborate with the airport staff on facilities or other airport infrastructure projects to ensure the airline interests are accounted for and addressed.

  • Leads successful projects by combining critical thinking, discernment and technical experience
  • Creates project justifications through collaborator engagement, communication and option development
  • Handles vendor staff support overseeing project construction and administration
  • Meets project metrics within approved cost and scope

Portfolio Planning, Development and Management:

  • Establish and maintain strong business relationships with airport leaders and United Internal Customers
  • Develop project strategy and approach during Envision and develop multiple alternatives to achieve Project Objectives

Project Delivery:

  • Manages self to plan (with CRE Leadership), design and implement airport and commercial property facility and infrastructure construction projects
  • Handles the programming, planning, design, construction, schedule and budget related issues that pose challenges to the success of the project/programs by using knowledge and experience in the planning, design, engineering and construction process
  • Owns the competitive solicitation process and ongoing performance of consultant and construction contracts
  • Completes project related analysis, creates presentations and reports, and builds project and portfolio exhibits
  • Accountable for the compliance with budget, schedule and scope of the projects
  • Is responsible for governance of the UA and CRE, artifacts, and guidelines
  • Is responsible for the utilization of any UA and CRE process and standards
  • Uses the Project Database, PM Artifacts, workflows, forms, Project Management Guidelines, etc.
  • Uses CRE Project tools such as SharePoint, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Suite applications, Oracle and others as defined by need
  • Ensures that projects meet defined metrics
  • Responsible and accountable for clear, accurate, consistent project reporting (weekly, monthly and quarterly) of portfolio of projects

  • Responsible in developing individual career development and training plans with leader
  • Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s approved projects

  • Will be held accountable for providing constant and clear communication to their Project Team, Leadership, Stakeholders and Customers

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in construction, design, engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years planning, design and construction experience
  • Experience managing capital facility and/or infrastructure projects
  • Conversant in design and construction techniques, understand design and construction management process and vernacular, understanding of best practices of Portfolio, Program and Project Management
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, and/or Business
  • 5+ years experience with airport/airline/aviation design and construction projects
  • Licensed as an architect or engineer or possess PMP, LEED, Black Belt and/or AAAE CM certification
  • Background in construction safety, capital improvement planning for facilities, and / or Aviation Master Planning, Knowledge of FAA, ICAO, IATA standards, guidelines and requirements that relate to planning and design of airport infrastructure and facilities
