Job Overview:
The Project Manager III will be responsible for leading and managing the successful design, construction execution, and completion of a renewable energy project. The Project Manager will ensure the project is designed, managed, and completed in a safe, reliable, quality, timely, and cost-effective manner. The Project Manager is the primary responsible individual for managing the major activities of Engineering and construction through commercial operation. The Project Manager will lead the client management responsibility.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
- Will ensure the plant is designed in a safe and reliable manner. Will ensure safety is not sacrificed in the pursuit of business objectives. Ensures the project establishes a safety program and culture that is positive, respectful, and proactive at the project. Works with the Project Safety Team to continuously review and improve the safety program.
- Will ensure the quality management system is implemented. Ensures the design is reviewed and construction best practices are trained and implemented in a manner preventing quality defects on the project. Will ensure supervision is proactively trained and executes work in accordance to design and specifications preventing rework on the project and providing a superior product to the customer.
- Will oversee and manage the engineering and design discipline throughout the project. Will ensure through others the design meets client design criteria along with reinforcing contractor’s responsibility of delivering a reliable and operational plant design in accordance with all requirements. Reviews all engineering adjustments and design changes for commercial impacts. Assists project teams with crafting appropriate engineering RFl’s by reviewing engineering documents and making recommendations and develops others’ abilities to do the same.
- Will develop and manage the customer relationship during the project lifecycle with the goal of collaborating, serving, and building a mutual and trusting relationship. Will proactively share with the customer on project status and any events needing attention. Will be a solution provider to the customer.
- Will lead and ensure the upfront planning of the project. Will manage and ensure the development of and adherence to the design and construction schedule with the project team. Will ensure the team is conducting effective meetings and reviewing the metrics, indicators, and the dashboard to understand actuals versus planned as well as the associated production of the work. Will scenario plan, develop alternative work methods, and help the team overcome schedule constraints during the project. Will develop and appropriately staff the project organizational chart and ensure the proper amount of resources are sourced and applied to the project to meet schedule and budgetary requirements.
- Will manage and own all financial aspects of the project while coordinating with Project Controls. Will facilitate this understanding to the project team and ensure the supervision understands and is actively managing against budget. Will facilitate the transition of the estimate from the Sales team to the construction team. Will establish and own the budget, cash flow, payment structure, and invoicing process. Provides monthly project forecasting of financial conditions. Will ensure receivables are collected in accordance with terms with customers and payables with supplier. Will lead the change management process with customers.
- Will manage, own and control the administration of the contract agreement between the customer and the EPC. Will manage and control the major supplier agreements and ensure adherence to them by the project team. This shall include understanding and communicating engineering design changes for potential impacts to commercial and schedule delivery of the project.
- Will ensure the growth and skill development is occurring for all project team members and their respective engineering and construction disciplines on and off the project.
- Will bring the business development and pre-construction team together and leads the closeout process focusing on all lessons learned and critical aspects involving project development, engineering, procurement, construction, change management, and commercial operations of the project.
- Will communicate, collaborate and update the leadership on the status and help needed on safety, quality, schedule, risks, opportunities, financial, changes, people, and customer relationship.
- Work with the project to coordinate equipment selection and procurement with Engineering and Supply Chain team.
- Troubleshoots issues as they arise; evaluates alternatives, proposes solutions, and gain team buy-in from Engineering, Client and other Stakeholders
- Makes decisions and recommendations, which can greatly affect the profitability of the assigned area. Makes significant independent judgments around project engineering, design, schedule, and budget leveraging through various subject matter experts.
- Responsible for observance of corporate policies and objectives.
Basic Qualifications:
- 12+ of experience with a proven background in project management and at least 10+ years or more of self-perform construction experience.
- B.S. degree in an accredited Engineering or Construction Management degree program preferred.
- Commensurate experience spanning years of engineering, estimating, management, and construction-related work proving their technical and leadership competencies.
- Strong understanding and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. Database experience is a plus.
- Experience with Primavera 6 and Microsoft Project scheduling software
- Demonstrated experience in leadership of teams of people.
- Strong leadership abilities and interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication
- Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
- Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities vital; superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills essential. Significant business skills are required.
- Extensive travel required.
