GENERAL SUMMARY
To perform a variety of tasks in support of the police property room; to work directly with the public and other police personnel by taking inquiries over the phone and in person; to record, file, retrieve and assimilate a variety of data related to the effective functioning of the Police Departments property room; and to perform additional tasks in maintaining the evidentiary chain of custody on criminal evidence and management of all impounded property. The tasks include receiving, storing, maintaining, releasing, and keeping records for all evidence and property.
SUPERVISION
General supervision is provided by the Property Room Police Sergeant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- All behaviors comply with Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Perform a variety of tasks associated with maintaining accurate records in the property database; retrieve evidence and property for police staff and citizens as necessary; evidence and property management requires the ability to perform manual labor.
- Perform a variety of tasks associated with maintaining accurate police records in various databases; prepare various printouts for police staff as necessary; input data regarding cases, incidents and other related matters into the computer; verify information on reports and invoices.
- Collate and file a variety of reports, records, information and paperwork; participate in maintaining an up-to-date police property room evidence system; prepare photocopies; distribute material as appropriate; purge files.
- Inspect police reports and invoices for accurate and complete information; enter information into computer; verify and complete information as necessary.
- Provide support and assistance to police personnel with uniforms in the quartermaster function.
- Work with property and evidence; prepare reports summarizing information received over a standard period of time.
- Answer the phone and direct calls; work with customers at the service counter; respond to inquiries for information; distribute reports.
- Serve as notary public.
- Operate City vehicles and equipment.
- Serve as a witness in court concerning the property and evidence function.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
High school Diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE
No experience necessary.
Must be able to type a minimum of 25 wpm.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
WORK SCHEDULE
- Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Full Time Employees:

The City offers three dental plan options: a managed plan (DHMO), an indemnity plan (DPPO), an enhanced indemnity plan (DPPO Enhanced). Coverage is available to all full-time employees at group rates.
The City offers free Vision Insurance to all employees. Dependents can be added for an additional fee.
Basic Group Life Insurance protection is provided to eligible full-time employees in the amount of two times the annual salary as recorded at the beginning of each year. The following voluntary benefits are available to full-time employees: Supplemental Life, AD&D Insurance, Cancer Insurance and Long-Term Disability
Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS): All employees appointed to positions designated to work 1,000 hours or more per year must participate in the TMRS. TMRS is a qualified tax-deferred retirement plan under Section 401 of the IRS. Seven (7) percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account. When an employee becomes vested and retires, the City provides 2-to-1 matching contributions.
Other benefits include Social Security, Tax Saver Program (Section 125 Flexible Spending Account), Deferred Compensation Plans, Direct Deposit, Paid Holidays, Paid Vacation, Sick Leave and Personal Leave.
