Prospect and Data Analyst, Stanford Law School, External Relations

The Prospect and Data Analyst in the law school’s External Relations department provides exemplary prospect analysis, reporting, and data-management support for all law school field fundraising activities, as well as non-reunion volunteer management. Reporting to the Director of Campaign Operations, this individual will be a key partner to External Relations Senior Leadership, helping to provide forward-thinking and forward-looking data analysis and develop tools and metrics for assessing the success of our fundraising efforts.

This individual will help prioritize prospect engagement, bring email- and mail-solicitations to fruition. They will generate and manipulate data from Stanford’s development databases-

Oracle Business Intelligence, PostGrads and Salesforce (internally called CARD)-as well as other sources when appropriate. They will also work closely with gift officers to identify and prioritize prospects for engagement and cultivation. This individual may partner with ER leadership to manage distribution of portfolios, donor lists, and develop tools and metrics for determining success. While not a field officer, this individual must be a peer-partner, anticipate field staff colleagues toward institutional goals.

Fundraising understanding, either in the field or as a partner program, will be a significant foundation for this individual’s work. This individual will help to develop strategies toward achieving development goals in terms of dollars, engagement, and participation, and will help to identify opportunities for deployment of the dean and gift officers.

This individual may collaborate with peers across the Office of Development, and may represent the SLS team in settings including the OOD-wide data managers cross-team collaborators group. CORE DUTIES:

  • Create dashboards, reports, and other tools in consultation with senior managers to help the External Relations team manage their progress towards fundraising and other goals.
  • Work under consultative or self-initiated direction to assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom information (reports, charts, graphs and tables) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information.
  • Create non-routine data sets and their related information summary; perform statistical analyses appropriate to complex data and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with other partner teams, including but not limited to the university’s central fundraising office to standardize and systemize routine reports, dashboards, and reporting metrics.
  • Devise methods for identifying data patterns, trends in available information sources using a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques. Determine and recommend additional data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Provide data oversight and project management for direct marketing, in partnership with client manager.
  • Design and customize reports and presentation-ready analyses and visualization based upon data particularly from CARD, OBI, PostGrads, and other sources using software tools including Excel and Tableau.
  • Analyze, propose, and implement reporting and activity measurement solutions across the Law School External Relations office. Distribute and disseminate reports to applicable executive and internal constituencies including all field officers across the team.
  • Serve as a resource for non-routine data or prospect-based inquiries, tied to prospect identification or cultivation, or non-fundraising engagement.
  • Lead the implementation of data standards and common data elements for data collection.
  • May test prototype systems and participate in approval and release process for new systems and reports.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Preferred experience in prospect management and/or a quantitative discipline such as finance, statistics or engineering.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software. Experience with Oracle Business Intelligence and/or Salesforce Reporting strongly preferred.
  • Expert ability to collect data using a variety of methods, such as data mining and hardcopy or electronic documentation study, to improve or expand databases.
  • Basic statistical ability.
  • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail.
  • Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database or scrutinize the form of a question.
  • Ability to work with data of varying levels of quality and validity.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce data in a clear and understandable manner meeting user requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers.
  • Ability to take a leadership role on projects and with users/clients.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 to $112,000 per annum.
