Duties include, but are not limited to:

Provides direction for clinical education and development, and for the assessment of patient status; educates clinical staff and leads the assessment and evaluation of nursing needs for patients; provides clinical direction & acts as lead worker over nursing staff (e.g., lower-level registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, psychiatric attendants, activity therapists, general activity therapists & /or therapeutic program workers) to provide psychiatric nursing care to patients; intervenes in crisis & emergency situations.

Develops, coordinates & monitors in-service nursing training programs to nursing staff; design & develop course objectives, outlines & lesson plans; teaches elementary, advanced nursing theory, skills, methods & techniques; train staff in the development of treatment plans, charting, documentation procedures, medication, infection control, administering of medications & treatments; observe & evaluate performance of nursing staff; coordinates continuing education requirements of nursing staff as required by Ohio Administrative Code 4723-14-03 as well as the standards and codes of the Ohio Board of Nursing; oversees, coordinates, and conducts orientation for nursing staff and students; serves as the site administrator of the OhioMHAS Learning Management System; writes & approves Continuing Education (CE) applications; researches and identifies resources, training references, programs & courses to meet staff competency needs; de-signs and & conducts training studies based on needs assessments & training reports; evaluates, documents, & submits report of employee progress; maintains employee training records; participates in peer review of other nursing professional development specialists; conducts chart reviews & provides performance information to supervisors for completion of performance evaluations of nursing staff; prepares & maintains monthly, quarterly and annual statistical reports of training activities as requested/required; ensures adherence to The Joint Com-mission (TJC) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) Standards, Hospital policies and procedures; completes and maintains staff education records (e.g. teaching plans, handouts, references and attendee performance, etc.)

Serves on committees (e.g., Continuing Education Committee, etc.), acts as liaison for Schools & Colleges of Nursing; attends and participates in meetings; workshops &/or seminars; prepares and distributes documents (e.g. reports, schedules); responds to inquiries; order supplies, equipment & materials relevant to staff education and development needs; performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
Requires current license as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Revised Code; 12 mos. exp. in psychiatric nursing or delivery of nursing services to persons with developmental disabilities; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in counseling; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations.

Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience requirements, but not for the mandated licensure.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT:

Biennial renewal of licensure as registered nurse.
