CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION
CLASSIFICATION TITLE: LIFEGUARD/POOL ATTENDANT PT
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens using the pool and its facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Observes and oversees the activities of swimmers; scans the water; enforces pool rules; maintains discipline at facility; takes preventive safety actions; rescues distressed swimmers; provides emergency first aid and CPR; performs other emergency life-saving services as needed.
Maintains swimming pool and facility; opens pool facility for scheduled pool hours; monitors, regulates, and records pool chemical levels; monitors and regulates temperature of pool water; vacuums pool; cleans tiles; checks pressure; fills chlorinator; monitors water temperature; checks pump valves; washes filter; diagnoses pool water and administers appropriate chemicals; cleans restrooms, locker rooms, walkways, pool deck, and pool furniture; stocks paper goods; maintains related documentation.
Provides information to individuals regarding pool policies, procedures, programs, fees and other issues; responds to questions/complaints and initiates problem resolution.
Instructs swimming lessons and water exercise classes; registers program participants; “checks in” class participants; teaches a variety of skills, such as floating, stroke technique and endurance.
Maintains inventories of supplies, forms, and equipment; ensures availability of adequate supplies to complete work activities; initiates requests for needed materials, equipment, and supplies.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, student evaluations, chemical reports, attendance records, or other documents.
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Communicates with supervisor, City employees, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction.
Maintains an awareness of new products, methods, trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
Operates rescue equipment, pool vacuum, pressure washer, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years old. Must be able to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard certification. Work days, nights and weekends
