CITY OF MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA
CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION
CLASSIFICATION TITLE: RECREATION ASSISTANT
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to assist with the implementation of recreation events, activities, and programs held both indoors and outdoors for youth, adult, and senior populations. The classification is required to provide customer service functions including providing information and assistance to customers in person and on the phone and responding to routine questions or complaints.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
General Reed Center and Mary C. Canty Center
Sets up tables and chairs for facility rentals; breaks down and cleans facility after events; conducts safety inspections prior to event rental events.
Performs other related duties as required, requested or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; ability to perform in a fast-paced environment; ability to work independently and as a team; experience working in a public facility is preferred; must have flexible schedule and ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
General Reed Center and Mary C. Canty Center – Must be able to lift, push, and or pull 50+ pounds on a regular basis in a manner that is safe and effective; must be able to handle folding chairs, stacking chairs, and moving tables of various shapes and sizes.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
