Public Affairs Director – New England Market

In the role of Public Affairs Director, you will report to the Head of Public Affairs and provide strategic direction for the bank’s philanthropic investments across New England, particularly in the areas of workforce development and financial empowerment.

You will regularly engage with internal and external stakeholders as it relates to the bank’s strategic philanthropic investments and colleague engagement opportunities. The position requires an experienced, creative and energetic public affairs / communications / marketing professional with demonstrated success in relationship building and influence.

You will be required to have strong communications skills and work to develop and deliver strategies to create positive brand awareness guiding the team’s use of various tools including media, social media and internal communications channels.

You will manage a high performing team providing regular coaching and mentoring to develop and maximize team capabilities. The chief function is to ensure the team is effectively leveraging and executing the bank’s strategic investments, building strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders and external COIs, developing strategies around colleague engagement opportunities, and overseeing community outreach activities across New England.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy related to philanthropic investments ensuring proper administration of budgets, adherence to SOPs and compliance with all policies and procedures of the Citizens Charitable Foundation.
  • Utilize data-driven approach to make strategic, need-based philanthropic recommendations for the local markets and utilize this data to educate key stakeholders.
  • Regularly track and report metrics/measurement/results of charitable giving initiatives and demonstrate business impact.
  • Build strategic partnerships with non-profits to support Citizens’ focus areas of Financial Empowerment and Workforce Development.
  • Provide oversight and management of local charitable giving budget through annual forecasting process and monthly budget review.
  • Position senior leaders strategically in local business, civic and non-profit boards and committees.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to create and communicate consistent community messaging internally and externally to Increase visibility of the bank’s charitable giving activities through media and social media recommendations.
  • Develop local strategy related to colleague engagement (volunteer) programs on a local level including skills-based opportunities.
  • Leverage bank’s national non-profit partnerships locally.
  • In partnership with Community Development, execute key economic development initiatives with local charitable contributions for CRA purposes.
  • Partner with Sponsorships Team to identify and activate local market opportunities to ensure the greatest public relations value.
  • Represent the bank in the community attending various external events.
  • Ensure strict adherence for self and the team to corporate risk/compliance guidelines and policies to ensure favorable audit results.

Experience & Skills

  • 10 years of diverse strategic philanthropy, leadership, management and corporate communications/marketing experience
  • Ability to develop strategy and drive results; demonstrated creative and innovative thinking
  • Demonstrated success developing strategic partnerships that drive brand favorability and consideration for the business using data-driven metrics and measurement to assess impact
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills to engage and inspire others
  • Exemplary writing, verbal, and problem-solving skills; must be able to effectively anticipate issues and problem solve when issues arise
  • Experience managing, coaching and developing high performing teams while holding them accountable for results.
  • Strategic understanding of the nature of various initiatives and their impact on overall corporate objectives
  • Budget management experience
  • Effective time management and strong organizational and planning skills; solid work ethic
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple, changing priorities
  • Experience in banking/financial services is preferred
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite

Education & Certificates

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field

Hours & Work Schedule

Hours per Week: 40

Work Schedule: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (nights/weekends as required)

Pay Transparency

The salary range for this position is $126,000 – $150,000, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.
