Responsibilities
About the role:
Public Affairs Specialist II at GM Financial supports and contributes to the execution of the company’s public and governmental affairs and media relations strategies, helping drive dialogue, build relationships, and create story-telling opportunities with key stakeholders internally and externally in addition to policymakers to elevate the GM Financial brand and support our parent company, General Motors. An ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who can brainstorm ideas, collaborate with others, develop strategic concepts, analyze legislation, compose thorough and informative briefings, and craft meaningful, compelling messages that inspire the target audience to take a desired action.
Qualifications
What makes you a dream candidate?
- Support the company’s public affairs program through background research and development of briefing materials for select industry groups and key policy stakeholders to help drive thoughtful, enterprise-aligned strategies and initiatives that advance company interests and our brand
- Possess an advanced understanding of federal, state and local political landscapes and issues
- Write, edit and disseminate briefings and communications to internal and external stakeholders, including policymakers
- Monitor media coverage and proactively identify opportunistic communication possibilities
- Create cross-channel content that can be used in a variety of ways, including company listings, website copy, blogs, social media posts and digital communications, incorporating best practices for search engine optimization (SEO)
- Support execution of activities related to the company’s financial literacy and other community engagement programs
- Strong, proven written and oral communication skills
- Excellent and efficient working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel (any experience with Adobe suite is a plus)
- Ability to make independent decisions, demonstrate leadership ability and build relationships
- Must be comfortable working both independently and as a team
Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in political science, public policy, communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, mass communications or related discipline required
- 4 years of experience in government relations, corporate communication, public relations, or journalism experience preferred

Salary
The base salary range for this role is: USD $59,700.00 to $110,500.00.
At GM Financial, we strive for transparency in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors like knowledge, skills, experience, and education.
This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan. Full time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits on day one of employment.
