The Opportunity (Proposal)
As the Public Health Inquiries Specialist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) you will play an important role by providing communication services to support the Public Inquiries Program. This position will be on-site at CDC’s Hyattsville, MD or Atlanta, GA office or hybrid remote/on site. In addition to email and telephone inquiries escalated from CDC’s National Contact Center (CDC-INFO), inquiries and requests are received through direct mail, internal customers, Congressional Offices, and from outreach activities. Inquiries range from requests for technical assistance, data and statistics, and publications and information products. You will perform centralized inquiries and publication inventory and distribution functions that meet CDC standards of accuracy and quality, managed and inspected by the CDC-INFO Project Leader. This position is contingent on project award to Abt.
Core Responsibilities

Public Inquires point of contact, triage, and tracking

Serve as the initial point of contact for public inquiries and responses. Triage technical and complex inquiries to subject matter experts (SMEs) and ensure responses are accurate and complete. Manage, record and track inquiries. Escalate problems in responding to inquiries or complaints to the Project Leader and maintain databases for tracking them. Update and maintain the Public Inquiries Program Contact list for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), used to triage public inquiries.

Evaluation and Reporting

Perform continuous analysis of the types of requests received. Assist with the review and evaluation of inquiries and the quality of responses provided. Prepare reports on the inquiries program and assist in the presentation of those reports. Prepare ad hoc inquiry analytic reports on publications inventories and releases. Update, maintain, and deliver year-end inquiry reports, and annual five year summary report, trends report, publications inventory report, and others.

Publication request fulfillment and database maintenance

Fulfill publication and information product requests manually or by placing orders through the internal online CDC-INFO Publications Administrative Tool (warehouse). Support activities associated with centralized publication inventory and distribution functions. Assist in the management of onsite holdings and warehouse inventories of publications and information products. Update and maintain publication databases. Prepare annual and ad hoc reports. Perform Publications Administrative Tool (PAT) warehouse inventory maintenance. Review holdings to ensure all standards are applied.

Develop and update SOPs and Tools

Work closely with the Project Leader to develop or update communication tools that will better serve the Public Inquiries Program. Contractor shall assist in the review, edit, and update of program content material for resource tools utilized by CDC-INFO agents. Assist with writing and developing information for standard operating procedures; content for the Inquiries web page; content for pre-recorded and live training events; and other job aides.

Learning and Training

Attend free onsite and virtual seminars and webinars that highlight the newest data releases and other meetings identified by Technical Monitor. Attend regular status meetings with various teams and stakeholders. Complete required trainings, including plain language training.

What We Value

  • Bachelor’s Degree + Five years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree + Three years of relevant experience, or PhD
  • Demonstrated experience with managing inquiries, developing processes, reports, and communication tools, maintaining and managing inquiry/response database, fulfilling requests from the public, and working with staff and SMEs to deliver accurate information to the public.
  • Knowledge of public health data and statistics, and organizational awareness and knowledge of types of health data produced by CDC is a real plus.
  • Ability to work on site in CDC’s Hyattsville, MD or Atlanta, GA office with potential for remote work or hybrid schedule
  • Previous experience working on site (badged) at CDC.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $65,000 to $91,000, and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
