Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as the TB Program Specialist under the TB Surveillance Coordinator. TB Program Specialist coordinates activities for the TB Program including but not limited to, meetings, trainings, maintain contacts, coordinate travel, monthly newsletters, maintaining the SharePoint site, preparation of communication to local health departments, and monitors Tuberculosis cases and outbreaks and provides technical assistance to local health authorities and practitioners.
Job Responsibilities
1. Conducts information dissemination activities during partner events, conferences, and meetings.
- Assists in planning, coordinating, logistics, and implementing TB education and training events and activities.
- Travels to help coordinate and organize TB Program staff meetings and activities.
2. Provides technical consultation to local health department personnel, private health care providers and private physicians about procedures and practices for reporting TB cases to appropriate health authorities.
3. Assists in the analysis of TB reporting data for accuracy, timeliness, and completeness based on the report of verified cases of tuberculosis (RVCT) guidelines from the CDC.
- Reviews TB lab reports.
- Ensures all TB related reports are forwarded to local TB authorities.
- Provides input on measures to improve TB surveillance in Illinois.
- Assists in preparing and submitting activity reports, evaluation plans, and reports of epidemiological data for further recommendations and issuance of disease control measures.
4. Acts as a liaison to TB Control and Prevention stakeholders. Coordination of activities for TB Program to crosscut participation with IDPH partners, stakeholders, and work groups.
5. Ensures that reporting of the electronic disease notification (EDN) system and interjurisdictional notifications (IJN) are completed ensuring data accuracy, timeliness, and completeness. Follow up information reported back to CDC.
6. Assists with the TB Medical Assistance Program (TB-MAP); keeps track of TB-MAP funding, reviews and approves TB medication requests, orders and provides TB medication to local TB control authorities.
7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with course work in health education, physical and biological sciences.
- Requires one year of professional experience in a health education or investigation program in the public or private sector, or completion of an approved training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year experience working in the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
- One year experience working with electronic health records.
- One year experience investigating individual cases of communicable disease.
- One year experience using Microsoft Office products.
- One year experience working with local health authorities.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties.
- Requires possession of a valid driver’s license.
