Public Health School Liaison – Contract

THIS IS AN INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR POSTING AND IS NOT AN ALLEN COUNTY GOVERNMENT OR FORT WAYNE ALLEN COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEE.

Hour are flexible part time; up to 29.5 a week

Under the direction of the Clinical Services & Case Management Director, the Contracutal & Part-Time Public Health School Liaison (School Liaison) collaborates with school nurses and other community partners, to provide support, guidance, and assistance in addressing school health and public health matters. This includes ensuring the completion of required childhood screenings, testing, and immunizations to minimize the number of children with deficiencies in mandated public health areas. By addressing these issues, the liaison aims to prevent outbreaks of communicable diseases and mitigate learning deficiencies in students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Acts as a liaison between public health and schools, assisting with prevention of communicable diseases, promoting required childhood in-school screenings, and facilitating educational opportunities.
  • Convenes and facilitates regular meetings with school staff to discuss public health issues and their impact on school health.
  • Develops and distributes educational materials on public and school health topics.
  • Conducts trainings and presentations on various health topics to schools and other community partners.
  • Collaborates with community partners to ensure provision of public health clinics for screenings and immunizations.
  • Assists schools in developing and reviewing communicable disease prevention and response plans.
  • Helps schools with vaccination data entry into the required immunization portal, when appropriate.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data on school and public health efforts.
  • Educates parents, school staff, and others on the importance of school-based health programs.
  • Represents the Allen County Health Department at meetings and attends state-required School Liaison meetings.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.

Minimum Requirements and Working Conditions

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Biology, Environmental Health, Public Health, Health, Social Work, Dietitian or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of public health principles, practices, and policies
  • Preferably, 2-3 years of experience working in or with schools, preferably in a health-related role
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification upon employment as required for all public health staff
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with community partners
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement health programs and initiatives
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Familiarity with relevant health education curricula and resources
  • Knowledge of appropriate local, state, and federal health regulations and guidelines
  • Strong advocacy and leadership skills
  • Flexibility to travel between schools and attend meetings or conferences as required

LICENSING:

  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification upon employment as required for all public health staff
  • Valid driver’s license
