Overview

The Manager-Public Information oversees, manages, and facilitates the successful implementation and execution of the city’s public information functions to ensure effective communication with the public and the media providing information regarding city policies, operations, programs, services, and news.

  • Manages and supports the effective delivery and communication of information throughout the City; ensures information is accurate and effective while maintaining the City’s image.
  • Provides response to requests from the City Manager’s Office and city departments for counsel and assistance, and inquiries from the public and the media to provide accurate information.
  • Serves as the city’s primary liaison with the news media to respond to media inquiries; engages professionally with various news agencies when needed and ensures the professional delivery of public information through multimedia and digital content.
  • Establishes and determines short and long range goals for the public affairs and outreach activities; determines objectives and facilitates delivery of professional content to enhance the City’s programs and services while communicating effectively with the citizens of the City of Dallas.
  • Maintains, monitors, and manages fact sheets and public information metrics notebook for use in speeches by Mayor’s and City Manager’s Offices; checks information to ensure its accuracy.
  • Manages, oversees and coordinates designs, graphics, and video for advertisements for assigned departments in a daily and weekly newspaper, and special information material presented at public meetings to inform the public about public hearings or special city services.
  • Prepares written materials for the Director or Assistant Director to communicate with the public about the city’s budget and provides other financial information as needed for use by the City Council and city management.
  • Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience

  • 5 years professional level experience in facility management, outcome-based programming, professional

Licenses and Certifications

  • Texas Driver’s License

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or other related field

Supplemental Information

Knowledge and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of public relations and journalism.
  • Knowledge of all social media, news media, and related platforms.
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques to resolve problems and issues.
  • Ability to operate word processing computer programs.
  • Excellent language skills including knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Ability to speak in public and make presentations to a wide variety of groups.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with public officials, volunteers, other employees, and general public.
  • Ability to manage and lead personnel performing public information services and content.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships.
