T his position offers the flexibility of a hybrid schedule that combines working from home with regular in-office and/or community presence.

In-person work requirements may change for training, meetings, and other operational needs.

Employees must reside at a location that allows for reasonable response time to workplace reporting requirements. Daytime travel within Ohio may be required.

Who We Are:

Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) is the state agency that empowers Ohioans with disabilities through employment, disability determinations, and independence. It is accomplished through its Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR), Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired (BSVI) and Division of Disability Determination (DDD). A fourth area is the Division of Employer and Innovation Services (EIS), which is responsible for establishing and maintaining partnerships with employers.

OOD works with partners in businesses, education, and non-profit organizations to facilitate customized employment plans for Ohioans with disabilities; helps Ohio companies recruit and retain employees with disabilities; and is the sole agency determining medical and vocational Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs in Ohio. OOD Office of Communications

The OOD Office of Communications works to advance OOD’s brand reputation by promoting our programs, partnerships, initiatives, events, and people. The team’s goal is to help the agency reach more people with disabilities who could benefit from OOD services.

What is a Public Information Specialist and what do they do?

Assist with communication strategies, projects, and materials from the OOD Office of Communications. Collaborates with Communications team members on new content, including writing stories and developing new ideas. Prepares and schedules social media posts. Produces social media reports. Stays up-to-date with social media and digital marketing trends to offer strategic suggestions. Prepares social media advertisement campaigns. Routes direct messages, emails & media calls. Sends newsletters using a digital communications platform. Collates and share daily news clips. Travels as needed to help with event setup, meetings, and presentations. Provides administrative support for the Office of Communications.

Successful Public Information Specialist:

  • Is proficient in office management and social media platform/scheduling software.

Qualifications
Completion of undergraduate core program in journalism or communication; AND 1 course or 3 months’ experience in public relations.

OR, 24 months’ experience in field of journalism or communication dealing in public multi-media techniques and relations, public speaking, news writing, reporting & editing.

OR, equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
