The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, is currently seeking a part-time year-round Public Programs Assistantfor the College Park Aviation Museum (CPAM). The College Park Aviation Museum shares its campus with the world’s oldest continuously operating airport, established by the Wright Brothers in 1909, and home to the first Army aviation school. We are dedicated to preserving aviation innovations in College Park and Prince George’s County. We engage and inspire our community and visitors with diverse stories through education, exhibits, outreach, and programming.
This candidate will support CPAM in upholding its mission and vision and the Natural and Historic Resources Division’s (NHRD) impact framework, inclusive interpretation plan, and four strategic pillars:

The Public Programs Assistant assists in facilitating day-to-day operations and specialty museum programs through our Education, Public Programs, and/or Collections Department. The candidate should demonstrate and possess experience and a strong interest in community engagement, public programming, education, collections, exhibits, and work well with a team.
The focus of this position will be in the Public Programs Department.
Candidate must be available between 20 and 25 hours a week. Regular weekend hours and staffing scheduled evening rentals and public programs are requirements of this position.
Examples of Important Duties
- Work with Public Programs Manager to plan, develop, promote execute, and evaluate public programs that engage with the community.
- Support Public Programs Manager on signature events such as Santa Fly-In, College Park Day, Latinas in Aviation, Maryland Aviation Festival, etc.
- Provide special public tours, manage birthday parties, and staff facility rentals during regular weekend and scheduled evening hours.
- Staff outreach booths and community events.
- Support Education Department assisting with field trip tours and gallery staffing.
- Support Guest Services, occasionally staffing the front desk, selling tickets and merchandise, and opening/closing the museum.
Candidate will also assist and work collaboratively with Operations Manager, Education, Public Programs, and Collections Departments to manage ongoing inter-departmental projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrolled in or completed a Bachelor’s degree in any field
- Two years of museum, education or cultural arts experience
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- A valid driver’s license, or the ability to acquire one.

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.
If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.
Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
