Visitor Experience & Public Engagement Specialist (Public Relations Specialist I)

The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art (NEHMA) at Utah State University seeks an experienced Visitor Experience and Pubic Engagement Specialist to work in a team-based office environment. This position will supervise museum attendants to ensure visitors have a welcoming and educational experience, manage all aspects of museum events and rentals, and promote the Museum and its collection, exhibitions, programs, events, activities, and facilities to both on and off campus audiences as well as local and national media (print, electronic, and broadcast). Additionally, with the help of interns, the position oversees the museum’s website updates, social media platforms, event calendars, newsletter, marketing research and analysis, and advertising campaigns. A successful candidate will create an integrated marketing and communications strategy to deliver the Museum’s key messages across multiple platforms to various constituents with consideration given to branding visibility and audience and visitor growth in alignment with the Museum’s mission and goals.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be able to effectively support a range of responsibilities in a fast-paced office setting. In the capacity of events coordinator, this position will support the Museum’s efforts to plan, market and execute events, such as exhibition receptions, lectures, panel discussions, book clubs, student groups, private events, and fundraisers. The position will have the ability to hire interns and will work with museum attendant staff to assist with event duties and occasional marketing efforts.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, art history, communication or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in customer service and/or events management
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends for events

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a museum in the capacity of visitor services and events management
  • Basic knowledge of website CSS & HTML

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills; exceptional verbal, interpersonal communication, and organizational skills; high creativity; project management, and attention to detail required
  • Ability to effectively build and cultivate professional relationships, identify, and use internal/external resources creatively and effectively, and utilize a strong network of contacts
  • Ability to think through the details and logistics of event needs and plan accordingly
  • Skills to hire, train and supervise museum attendants, leading by example to welcome visitors and assist them in any way needed
  • Excellent writing skills to communicate with the press and public
  • Ability to work cooperatively across departments to achieve common goals
  • Proven experience with audience development and dedication to the principles of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion
  • Proficient in Google AdWords and evaluate related forms of digital analytics and reporting
  • Openness to new ideas and their implementation. Ability to react and adapt to changing circumstances appropriately, and to play a pivotal role in creating an inclusive museum environment
  • Proficiency working with Mac based applications, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other basic desktop applications. Experience with any combination of software programs is helpful, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe, Dreamweaver, InDesign, and Flash
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Flickr, Forums, Wikis, blogs, etc.) and experience managing business accounts on those platforms, in either a corporate or non-profit setting desired

Advertised Salary
