JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Communications Services Manager, the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Supervisor assists with planning, directing and coordinating the County Sheriff’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) operations. Oversee the day to day operations of the communications center and train employees on policies, procedures and technology. This position performs 911 dispatch duties as apparent or assigned, including special details.
The full wage range for this position is $31.20-$46.80. Starting rate of pay for this position is $39.00 per hour. Candidates with prior experience will be given consideration for increased starting rate of pay.
The emergency dispatch center is a 24/7/365 operation. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and be adaptive to shift work. May be called upon outside of regular shift hours to respond to extreme emergency events.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist the Communications Services Manager with oversight of the daily operations of the communications center to include; county radio system, telephone system, mobile data communications network, Sheriff’s Office wireless communications, and other equipment used by the communications center.
• Supervise the performance of employees in PSAP Unit by establishing work tasks and assigning individuals to complete them, training employees on Sheriff’s office policies and procedures, providing guidance and constructive criticism regarding work performance, approve vacation and sick leave requests, nominating employees for achievement awards, complete and sign performance reviews, participate in the hiring and selection process of new employees, and complete and sign probationary review to ensure performance is in compliance with established directives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
• Supervise the warrants process, provide work direction to the Warrants Specialist, train dispatchers in various warrants duties, and ensure warrants handling occurs within mandated timelines.
• Supervise and maintain the Communications Training Program and ensure that the Communications Training Officers have appropriate training, certifications and knowledge of Sheriff’s Office policies, procedures and Office standards.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Represent the interests of Carver County PSAP at professional County, Metro and State Board meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma/GED and five (5) years of full-time paid work experience in a 911 or public safety answering center
or
• Associates Degree and three (3) years of full-time paid work experience in a 911 or public safety answering center
or
• High School Diploma/GED, three (3) years of full-time paid work experience in a 911 or public safety answering center, and two (2) years of supervisory experience in any field
or
• Associates Degree, one (1) year of full-time paid work experience in a 911 or public safety answering center, and two (2) years of supervisory experience in any field
and
• Valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
SCORED EXAMINATION PROCESS
All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, CJIS background investigation, psychological evaluation, and pre-placement physical.
