Description / Position Overview
In this position, you will supervise Communications Supervisors who provide critical oversight for the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) communications center day to day operations which provide essential public safety services; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures, to supervise, assign, review, and participate in the work of staff that is responsible for public safety services; and provide excellent customer service.
This is a shift position requiring the ability to work varied hours and days in a 24/7 closed, secure environment.

Essential Job Functions – the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
- Supervise, assign, review, and participate in the work of staff that is responsible for public safety services,
- Acting as liaison between supervisors and employees; and providing mentoring and training to supervisors,
- Ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures,
- Ensures certifications are maintained,
- Determines and maintains adequate staffing levels, monitors adherence of all policies and procedures and general orders of subordinate employees,
- Monitor the supervisor’s management of public safety resources to include the emergency response technicians and public safety dispatchers,
- Assist in investigations for both internal and external complaints,
- Attend meetings and participate in committees,
- Developing policies and procedures,
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Serve as acting manager in the absence of the manager
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
- Knowledge of and ability to use supervisory skills to monitor performance of a regular group of employees,
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing,
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships,
- Ability to make quick and lucid decisions,
- Ability to use analytical judgment and decision-making abilities,
- Ability to manage and monitor work performance of subordinate supervisors,
- Ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions,
- Ability to use modern office equipment including computers,
- Ability to maintain and update a variety of files and records
Successful candidates will have
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, communications, or related field.
- Five years of full-time public safety communications and/or dispatch experience including two years of administrative and supervisory experience.
- Must be able to obtain the following within 3 months of hire date: CPR, NAED EMD, EPD, EFD, NCIC/CCIC, ICS 100, 200, 300, 700 and NCMEC
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
Ideal candidates will also have
- Three or more years of supervising in a public safety communications center
- Experience with CJIS, CAD, NCIC and CCIC computer systems
- Current CPR certification and Emergency EMD, EPD and/or EFD certifications
