Summary
Responsible for the general supervision and security of the campus and the safety of the students, staff, and visitors under the direct supervision of the Director of Public Safety. Position is located at the Schnecksville campus, however may rotate to sites as needed.

Salary is restricted to above range and will not exceed the maximum of the range. Salary offers are non negotiable and offers are determined and are based upon related work experience submitted on resume.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hire, supervise and evaluate the work of public safety officers, student interns and others as assigned. Plan and implement comprehensive continuing education and training. Hold staff meetings, plan staffing needs, shift coverage and work schedules.
  • Supervision of the Public Safety operations at Tamaqua and Allentown campuses including the Public Safety officers at those sites.
  • Be the first point of contact for part-time officers.
  • Cover shifts for the daytime Public Safety Supervisor as needed.
  • Attend public safety meetings, workshops and other events for professional development and networking.
  • Serve as departmental training officer to include keeping accurate records for all staff and ensuring their current status for all certifications.
  • Obtain and maintain instructor certification in MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) and ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) and provide training and other certifications determined necessary for all College faculty and staff.
  • Serve as Omnilert Admin access personnel for the College.
  • Collaborate with outside law enforcement, medical, fire and other emergency response centers to create and foster linkages for services.
  • Assist with daily essential duties of Public Safety Officers as necessary.
  • Assist in creating and updating of policy development, Annual Security Report, and emergency response guidelines.
  • Update departmental website as needed.
  • Collaborate with other college personnel as needed, to plan and provide public safety and security support for college activities and events.
  • Supervise/carry out appropriate initial and follow up investigation of all reported incidents, collaborating with the college behavior intervention team when appropriate, ensuring that all college safety and security policies, as well as state laws, are properly enforced by public safety personnel.
  • Assist with the Critical Incident Team to evaluate effectiveness of emergency preparedness and response plans, training and materials, recommending changes as needed.
  • Develop contingency plans for handling emergency situations, planning coverage for special events, training public safety staff and employees accordingly.
  • Plan, request and administer the departmental operating budget. Recommend capital equipment purchases, as well as direct hire and student work study expenditures. Monitor and report on expenditures, cash flow and income as requested.
  • Use a variety of computer software to maintain files, activity logs and records. Compile data, format and prepare reports as assigned.
  • Patrols all properties, parking lots, and buildings of college campuses to ensure safety and security.
  • Provides CPR/first aid/first responder responsibilities.
  • Serve as Core Team Member of the Critical Incident Team and maintain minutes for all meetings.
  • Recommend and make departmental purchases with approval from supervisor.
  • Be on the “call list” for the alarm systems.
  • Perform all duties of the Public Safety Officer as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications
Required:
Education

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lethal Weapons Training Act 235 certification; if not Act 235 certified, must complete certification course within 1 year of hire.

Clearances -To Be Obtained Prior To Hire

  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting)
  • Other: Valid PA driver’s license, Driver Vehicle Clearance Report, must have and maintain: CPR/AED and First Aid Certification

Work Experience

  • Minimum of three years police, security or related field experience.
  • Basic knowledge in alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of general safety and fire safety procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to work and think independently.
  • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge
  • Must possess excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Act 235
  • Supervisory experience in a police, security or related field

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
