About the position
Performs manual labor and operates equipment/machinery in all areas of the Parks & Recreation department to maintain and improve city properties and facilities. Primary duties will be aquatic park and indoor/outdoor ice arena maintenance during summer and winter months, with spring and fall assignments in parks. Must be able to work a flexible schedule and respond to after hour emergencies as assigned.
This position will work Tuesday – Saturday 3 p.m. – 11 p.m. when at the Rec Center and Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. when at the Parks department, depending on the department needs and season.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform a variety of maintenance and repair services at the Rec Center primarily in summer and winter months including, but not limited to:
- Ice resurfacing, edging, and overall ice quality.
- Monitoring and adjusting pool pumps, motors, valves, filtration equipment, and water chemistry.
- Monitoring building mechanical systems and equipment for safe and efficient operation.
- Set up and tear down of special events.
- Serve as person responsible for facility during assigned shift, providing customer service assistance and maintaining a welcoming friendly environment.
2. During off-peak times (spring and fall), perform various maintenance and support functions with the parks department including, but not limited to:
- Snow and ice removal (plowing, blowing, shoveling).
- Outdoor ice rink maintenance.
- Building maintenance and repair.
- Mowing, trimming, turf maintenance, or other parks maintenance functions.
- Special event set up and tear downs.
3. Perform a variety of other duties as assigned.
- Report equipment problems to appropriate staff minimizing equipment downtime, and notify supervisor of parts requiring procurement.
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers, and the general public.
- Maintain a safe work environment at all times promoting the safety of the employees, co-workers, and the general public.
- Maintain licensure and capability of operating City owned equipment used in the performance of assigned duties.
- Provide custodial services necessary to keep buildings clean, safe and in good functioning condition at all times.
- Regularly and openly communicate with lead worker or supervisor regarding any problems or concerns relating to work sites or job assignments.
- Provide work direction to seasonal or temporary employees as assigned.
- Work flexible schedules to meet the needs of the various divisions, serve on-call, and report to after-hour emergencies as assigned.
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s license with tanker and air brake endorsements, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) and Class “C” Boiler’s License, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire .
- Ability to:
- Transport oneself to a variety of locations, climbing stairs and ladders, entering confined spaces, operate hand and mechanical tools and equipment, and physically perform all essential duties of the position.
- Read, follow and understand written policies, procedures, manuals, chemical information, etc. as needed to perform essential job functions.
- Independently and safely carry out tasks, duties and responsibilities assigned.
- Understand and follow safety/OSHA regulations.
- Work a varied schedule as assigned.

- Experience with:
- Manual labor and operation of trucks and equipment.
- Working in an ice arena.
- In a maintenance position with similar duties and responsibilities.
