If you are intrigued by challenges, you could be right candidate to become a Science and Engineering Project Manager in the Pulsed Power Sciences Engineering and Design Group.

You will serve as the Project Manager for large system that is being designed and built for delivery into the Nuclear Weapons Testing Complex.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

  • Lead cross functional teams of scientists and engineers, project management professionals, and business staff in a matrix-type organization to accomplish the project objectives.
  • Make technical and programmatic decisions regarding the direction of the project.
  • Work with project personnel, partners, and the extended project team, including stakeholders, customers, sponsors, and suppliers, to ensure that the project is fully and properly integrated.
  • Develop, define, and execute on project plans, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Produce project cost estimates and identifies other project resource needs and negotiate with resource managers to secure them for the success of the project.
  • Identify and address technical and non-technical risks, opportunities, and issues that impact the project and communicate them to stakeholders with mitigation recommendations and solutions.

Salary Range

$101,400 – $201,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Physics or equivalent STEM degree and 5 years’technical experience
  • Current PMP certification or equivalent certification, or the ability to acquire one in the next 12 months
  • Experience with standard project management practices for technical work
  • Experience with project management tools and applications
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience in management practices, assurance processes, business operations, fiscal and scheduling systems, and acquisition standards
  • Knowledge of and experience with standard project management practices for technical work including project plan development and control, scope management, project scheduling, cost estimation and management, quality assurance, project staffing, communications planning and management, risk and opportunity management, and procurement management.
  • Proficiency in tools and applications commonly employed in project management activities.
  • Demonstrated teaming skills, including the ability to work effectively with other organizations, functions, project sponsors and customers, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

About Our Team

The Pulsed Power Engineering and Design Group (01690) provides fundamental, advanced, and cutting-edge engineering to support the advanced science research and development programs in the Pulsed Power Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. The department’s engineers, designers, and technologists work together with the center’s scientists to deliver engineered solutions in the development, realization and operations of complex experimental platforms in the Pulsed Power Sciences Center and throughout the DOE Complex. This includes the Z Machine, Z Beamlet Laser (ZBL), Mykonos, Thor, STAR, Vulcan, and the Advanced Pulsed Power Development Laboratory. The Group uses CREO®, SolidWorks®, Windchill®, ABAQUS®, ANSYS®, CTH, and SIERRA engineering analysis and design platforms in support of the Center’s programs. This team is part of the Radiation, Electrical and High Energy Density Science (REHEDS) Research Foundation at Sandia.

Posting Duration

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
