What You Will Do
Come join our team! Los Alamos National Laboratory – one of the most innovative and creative multidisciplinary research institutions in the world – is looking for an experienced professional to join our leadership team in the Institutional Quality and Performance Assurance Plutonium Infrastructure Quality (IQPA-PIQ) Group. This position will report to the IQPA-PIQ Group Leader. The PIQ mission is to support the execution of plutonium pit production through the modernization of the TA-55 infrastructure and capabilities, with a focus on the 30 pits per year mission and major equipment installation throughout the Pajarito Corridor.
Candidates must have the ability to be Q-cleared, participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP), and may be required to support Night or Backshift Work schedules, as necessary. Typical QC Inspection Team Leader responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting the implementation of the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Plutonium Infrastructure (ALD-PI) quality management plan relating to construction in nuclear and radiological facilities.
- Collaborate across the project portfolios, resource allotment, effective communication, and resolution of quality issues.
- Participating in quality program implementation to include management review boards, oversight, trending, surveillances, NCRs, etc.
- Supporting the Laboratory mission by providing expert level quality support, executing strategic leadership, facilitating performance improvement, strengthening the quality culture, and advancing the Laboratory’s growth as a learning organization.
What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:
Quality Program Management: Demonstrated construction management and fabrication facility experience, preferably in the field. High-level knowledge implementing quality programs in support of nuclear facility operations or programs. Lead work activities that implement Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1 2008/2009a, AG-1, etc., that implements engineering specifications, DOE Orders, (10 CFR 830 Subpart A – Quality Assurance Requirements, Doe Order 414.1D – Quality Assurance).
Leadership and Management Skills: Demonstrated record of successful technical leadership and proven ability in supervising staff and contractors, directing assignments, assuring training and development, resolving conflicts, mentoring, team building, managing staff requirements, motivating employees, and monitoring performance.
Knowledge and Expertise: Thorough knowledge and experience in developing work scope, schedules, budgets, and coordinating work activities. Experience planning for and managing tactical execution of work, and tracking/reporting progress. Experience performing work in a construction environment and executing work in compliance with facility requirements, conduct of operations, conduct of engineering, and conduct of maintenance standards.
Project Management Skills: Demonstrated skills supporting simultaneous projects, executing organizational strategies, participating in strategic and operational planning and program implementation. Experience operating in facilities compliant with government agencies’ ordinances and regulations regarding QA compliance programs.
Communication and Collaboration: Demonstrated success developing working relationships with internal and external customers (DOE, LAFO, NNSA, DNFSB) and providing effective two-way written and oral communications.
Education and Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience in organization-level performance-based management, quality, and/or a technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Clearance: Active DOE Q Clearance.
LANL Mission/DOE/NNSA: Familiarity with the LANL mission and LANL Quality Assurance Program to include SD330, Los Alamos National Laboratory Quality Assurance.
Construction/QC Inspection: Experience working within construction type environments and/or experience with work related to quality control / NDE inspection.
Complex Technical Organizations: Knowledge of and experience in deploying quality program requirements in large, complex organizations and the ability to meet milestones within mission schedules.
Management Experience: A minimum of 2 years related management experience is preferred.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 – Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
