Duties

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Works under the supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager who establishes goals for a comprehensive recreational program; outlines established policies and procedures; provides technical guidance; approves recommendations on center operation, maintenance, modifications, and expenditures.

Serves as an assistant to the Outdoor Recreation Manager in planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising the recreation center activities, and performing a variety of administrative and clerical work involved in the operation of the Recreation Center. Administratively supervises and coordinates the activities of employees assigned to the Recreation Center. Plans workload and makes work assignments to individuals on daily basis or monthly basis, with regard to current and future programs and projects.

Plans certain areas of the outdoor recreation program. Develops the natural land and water resources for selected outdoor recreation activities, both those in basic categories (e.g., swimming, camping, boating, and fishing), and those designed to meet more specialized interests and needs (e.g., skiing, hunting, and skeet and trap shooting). Devises, improvises, and adapts these various activities to fit the conditions of the natural environment, and to conform to limitations in funds, facilities, equipment, and staff support.

Plans and coordinates the details of recurring and nonrecurring activities, special events, ticket sales, and joint community undertakings to maximize use of resources, consistent with the military mission and with the principles of natural resources development, conservation, sound usage, improvement, and management.

Schedules and publicizes outdoor recreation activities, insuring maximum effectiveness in attracting and motivating participants and in providing the widest possible range of activities in terms of community interests and needs. Arranges for equipment, supplies, and services needed to accomplish scheduled outdoor recreation activities. Collects fees from patrons, prepares appropriate forms and reports and maintains a cash account balance. Uses electronic computer equipment (e.g., RecTrac, email) to monitor cash sales and stay abreast of new techniques and information systems. Accounts for all funds involved in the program, and makes recommendations for improvements in funding and other support services.

Plans and implements improvements of operational policies and procedures, and establishment of funding requirement of the Center and advises or recommends for improvement. Keeps Outdoor Recreation Manager informed of work in progress, work completed and problem areas.

Schedules and conducts outdoor recreational activities. Accomplishes all liaison and coordination work required for the preparation of detailed plans. Analyzes reports of participants, equipment utilized and number of events by types and recommends changes in program emphasis, as required. Searches and selects information, explaining to participants spots of interest, relics, historical backgrounds, legends, and folklores.

Responsible for the security, storage, proper utilization and dispensing of supplies and equipment. Supervises required inventories of supplies, keeps center director informed of current and projected needs, and plans requirements to complete special projects. As requested, secures sources for purchase of supplies through local channels, procures necessary supplies and the completion of necessary supporting documents. Responsible for maintenance of equipment and for keeping Outdoor Recreation Manager informed of required repairs.

Compiles and prepares recurring reports and records to include attendance, activities, financial, receiving of property evaluations, purchase orders, time and attendance, etc. Prepares all correspondence initiated by Outdoor Recreation Manager. Establishes and maintains office files and performs other clerical work related to the recreation programs. Serves as the Outdoor Recreation Manager when supervisor is absent with full responsibility for maintaining continuity of all operations.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact, for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge or experience in developing, managing, and maintaining on outdoor recreation and rental program, to include but not limited to, paintball, kayaking, rafting, hunting, camping, boating, off-road vehicles, water sports, rock climbing, and wilderness survival. Must be able to obtain the following certifications within one hundred and twenty (120) days of hire: First Aid, CPR, AED, Wilderness First Responder, and Leave No Trace. Must be able to obtain and maintain a government travel card. Successfully passing National and state background checks is required. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45 lbs. independently and objects over 45 lbs. with assistance.
