Examples of Duties
Job Purpose
Under general supervision, manage the operations of a Recreation Activity Center. Supervises the educational and recreational programming for at-risk youth in a Recreation Activity Center; screens, evaluates, and monitors clients, and makes referrals to other agencies or professionals.
Essential Job Duties
- Manages the daily operations of a Recreation Activity Center.
- Supervises and trains staff.
- Plans, schedules, and oversees a program of diversified services to Recreation Activity Center participants of all ages.
- Supervises a variety of recreation and education activities designed to meet the needs of at-risk youth.
- Monitors and evaluates clients’ participation in the program to determine community needs are being met.
- Researches and implements new trends in recreation programs and services.
- Hosts community input meetings, evaluations and programs to build community.
- Supervises Recreation Activity Leaders and volunteers assigned to center.
- Prepares statistical and analytical reports of program activities and services provided.
- Responds to inquiries concerning program activities.
- Meets with social and civic organizations within the community.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in recreation and parks, social or behavioral science, public administration, or education.
Experience as described in Examples of Essential Job Duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required education.
Licenses and Certificate
Possession of a valid driver’s license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland’s driver’s license is required at the time of appointment.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Salary
Annual Salary review – Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases – Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases – In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
