GENERAL SUMMARY
To assist in the supervision of the public with usage of various Parks and Recreation facilities and programs. To assist with leading participants in a variety of recreational activities; to assist with the use of equipment and supplies; to assist with enforcing the rules and regulations of the Recreation Center; and to assist in organizing and implementing activities for the recreation program. Light cleaning and custodial duties as needed.

SUPERVISION
- General supervision is provided by a Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Specialist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual. Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures.
- Conduct assessments of facilities prior to usage and at the conclusion of events. Complete necessary paperwork and communicate effectively with customers.
- Assist with conducting daily recreational activities such as sports, games, dances, exercise, arts and crafts classes and other special events for program participants.
- Maintain inventory control on all games and equipment; maintain an accurate and current listing of users.
- Observe safety precautions; correct minor safety problems; conduct activities in a safe manner; maintain discipline at indoor and outdoor recreation areas.
- Provide public with information and answer questions regarding facility usage and programs. Collect fees and register participants for programs, leagues, and memberships.
- Enforce City and Department policies and procedures.
- Assist in completing necessary forms and records including participation cards, attendance records, maintenance checklists and financial reports.
- Assist with department special events.
RECREATION AIDE
This position requires staff to work from Mid-May through Mid-September. This includes a week of training in May. Recreation Aides work directly with Camp Counselors which include the following:
- KIDZ Kamp (traditional recreation center camps)
- Outdoor Adventure Camp
- Aides will organize and supervise general daily activities and attend weekly field trips.
- Some specialty camps focus on instructing campers in activities such as sport fundamentals, outdoor education, team-building or community based projects.
- Aides are also responsible for ensuring campers well being, maintaining our ratio (counselor to camper) and enforcing camp rules.
- Maturity, positive attitude, responsibility, genuine enthusiasm and the ability to interact well with children are important traits for a Recreation Aide.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION
- Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
EXPERIENCE
- No experience required; however, experience in working with children and/or leading educational or recreation programs is preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
- No driver license required.
- Must obtain First Aid and CPR certifications with 90 days of employment.
WORK SCHEDULE
- Flexible 12-20 hours per week (assisting Camp Counselors)
- Schedule may vary.
- Monday – Friday; 6:45 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
Part Time and Seasonal Employees:
PARS ARS 457 Plan enrollment is mandatory for part-time and seasonal employees who work less than 1,000 hours per year.
Each pay period, 6.2% of wages will be deducted from pay and deposited into your PARS ARS account. Contributions are made on a pre-tax basis.
Each pay period, the City will also contribute the equivalent of 1.3% of wages into a PARS ARS account. Employer contributions are deposited on a pre-tax basis.
There is no contribution to Social Security Administration.
