Examples of Duties
Under general supervision, performs journeyman level carpentry to complete repair, renovation, or construction of County properties.
Essential Job Duties
- Estimates and requisitions materials needed to complete project.
- Determines lay out of project.
- Completes project according to blueprints or drawings.
- Removes and constructs wood, metal, and masonry walls.
- Replaces or constructs doorjambs and windows.
- Installs sheet rock, plaster, and paneling. Installs or replaces a variety of tile and panels to walls, floors, and ceilings.
- Installs or replaces wood and synthetic trim, including door casings, moldings, and weather stripping.
- Installs or replaces windows and glass panes.
- Repairs and installs door and window hardware, shelves, partitions, and other fixtures.
- Installs and repairs asphalt, rubber, metal, tile, slate, and shingle roofs.
- Installs and repairs gutters, flashing, sheeting, fascia, roof vents, drains, and other roof-mounted appliances or accessories
- Lays out, constructs, installs, and repairs cabinets, furniture, and furniture systems.
- Uses woodworking tools and machinery to cut and shape wood.
- Applies formica and veneers. Leads and instructs lesser skilled workers.
- Prepares and keeps records of time and materials used.
Examples of Other Duties
Operates a light truck to transport workers, tools, or materials between job sites. May apply paint, stain, or other chemical coatings. May move furniture or other heavy objects in preparing or cleaning up job sites. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Four years’ experience in general carpentry.
(Related training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver’s license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver’s license at the time of appointment.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees’ Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.
Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be required to work overtime with little or no advance notice. Employees in this classification may be subject to standby duty for after-hours emergencies on a rotating basis.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, the lifting and carrying of heavy objects, and the operation of machinery, tools, and equipment. Some duties require exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as airborne particulate matter and inclement weather. Some positions require travel between work sites.

Salary
Annual Salary review – Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases – Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases – In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
