RECREATION ASSISTANT – BR Gym

Position is a combination of counter checkout service and recreation duties requiring specific knowledge of sports equipment and facilities.

Duties

Incumbent issues recreation equipment, uniforms, athletic equipment to authorized patrons ensuring that checkout slips are executed on all issued equipment. Incumbent also receives recreation equipment, uniforms and athletic equipment from patrons after use and returns to proper storage. Incumbent verifies authorized patrons, ensuring each patron correctly checks in. Responsibilities may include collection of fees and issuing receipts for use of the fitness center/gym. Incumbent will follow established policies and procedures for collecting fees and utilizing the point of sale system. Maintain information files, including records and receipts. Incumbent operates washer/dryer to keep uniforms, towels, soft goods etc. clean and dry for issue. Incumbent assists with conducting events sponsored by the Fitness Center/Gym. Puts up nets, prepare courts, and inspect equipment for safety, returning to proper place if moved. Incumbent answers telephones and provides basic information concerning the Fitness Center/Gym, which includes but not limited to playing fields, racquetball courts, volleyball courts, basketball, softball, etc. Must do walk a rounds to check facility for security, fire and safety issues. May assist with maintenance on equipment. Responsibilities require continually ensuring facilities are being properly utilized and that all areas are safeguarded from misuse and perform general housekeeping. Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe work area and may assist in cleaning and making facility ready for use. Other duties as assigned.

  • Successful completion of National Agency Background (NACI) Check required.
  • This position may require the incumbent to be available to work special events, weekends and holidays.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors under varied weather conditions.
  • This position is required to do considerable standing, bending, stooping, walking, pushing, reaching, climbing and lifting of objects weighing up to 45 pounds unassisted.
  • Completion of CPR, First Aid and AED training required within 90 days of appointment to position.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Qualifications

Must be a responsible individual with a pleasant, courteous attitude who can communicate effectively with the public. A neat and clean appearance required. Incumbent will need to quickly acquire a basic knowledge of the rules and practices of the equipment used. Will need to collect and accurately record cash transactions, and operate a cash register. Prior work history that demonstrates accountability in a customer service environment preferred.

Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.

Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required. We utilize E-Verify to confirm selectee’s eligibility to work in the United States.
