POSITION DESCRIPTION

Recreation Center Manager

Nature of Work
The Recreation Center Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Rochester Recreation Center and maintaining positive working relationships with community partners that provide programing at this location. The Rochester Recreation center is an indoor sports facility designed to host multiple sporting events under one roof including pools, ice rinks, and gym space. This is a supervisory position within the Sports Facilities Division of the Parks and Recreation Department reports directly to the Sports Facilities Division Head.

Pay: 2023 starting salary is $89,241o $104,989 depending on qualifications, with advancement to $131,238.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct the daily operations of the Rochester Recreation Center

  • Hire, manage and supervise staff and provide appropriate instruction and training
  • Schedule and supervise Recreation Center activities.
  • Coordinate use of shared program areas with the tenant user groups and other organizations that frequently schedule events, classes and activities at the Recreation Center.
  • Plan and coordinate major tournaments and events. Coordinate support services such as traffic control and security as needed. Negotiate program changes needed to support these events with tenant partners.
  • Work as a team leader with program partners to provide seamless service throughout the facility.
  • Communicate frequently with tenant groups and community partners to establish and maintain standards for customer service and program delivery.
  • Oversee the scheduling of daily work assignments and staff work schedules
  • Manage opening and closing the facility.
  • Coordinate the setup of the facilities for proper function (i.e. hockey, figure skating, swim meets, other tournaments and events).

Be responsible for a professionally trained and prepared staff to serve the needs of all users and events.

  • Provide supervisory leadership to arena complex full-time and part-time staff.
  • Work with recruiting and selecting skilled employees.
  • Supervise staff providing training and development opportunities as well as coaching when needed.
  • Complete performance evaluations in a timely manner.

Organize activities and functions

  • Provide assistance to users and user groups, on the organization and operation of adult and youth events and programs.
  • Coordinate programs and develop schedules with user groups that reflects the recreation needs in the community. Maintain a collaborative culture among City teammates and organizations we work with.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of attendance, rentals, and revenue.

Perform other duties as assigned

  • Direct others and occasionally provide hands on assistance in operational and maintenance activities.
  • Assist Director of Sports Facilities with the preparation of the annual budget and monitor revenues and expenditures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business/Public Administration, Parks and Recreation, or related field and three (3) years experience in the operations of an arena and/or auditorium facility.

Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Pool Operator Certificate -Can be obtained within the first 12 months of being hired
Valid Minnesota driver’s license

DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Previous ice arena / aquatic complex operational experience in a supervisory capacity with administrative duties.
