Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under the general direction and supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director or his/her designee, the Recreation Center Worker is responsible for assisting Recreation Center patrons with their needs within the Kenai Recreation Center. The Recreation Center Worker is responsible for maintaining awareness of activity throughout the Center – both planned use and casual use – and for being a point of contact for attendees at the Center while on duty. This position is responsible for ensuring that the Center is clean and organized for the enjoyment of the City’s patrons, addressing safety concerns, and reporting any issues as required.
Note: This position is scheduled to work 24 hours/week
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitors Recreation Center sign-in and attendance; performs collection of entry fees.
- Maintains awareness of patrons within the facility.
- Assists with check-in/check-out of equipment or property of the Recreation Center.
- Enforces facility rules in a courteous, but firm manner.
- Offers assistance with sports/games as available.
- Follows daily routines and completes checklists to ensure Center is maintained and ready for the next shift.
- Assists in routine cleaning on each shift; addresses spills or messes quickly to ensure safety and upkeep of the facility.
- Reports any identified maintenance concerns to the Supervisor as soon as possible.
- Provides information to patrons and visitors of the Kenai area as requested.
- Attends Department training and other continuing education programs as requested.
- Must have regular, reliable and predictable attendance at work.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Must have one (1) year of customer service experience with the demonstrated ability to develop rapport and respect with customers of all ages and abilities
- The applicant must possess any combination of training and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
- Must be available to work varying schedules including weekends, City holidays, religious holidays
- The applicant (or employee after hire) must pass a background investigation, including but not limited to a criminal background check to meet requirements for working with vulnerable populations such as minors.
- Must possess or obtain a valid CPR/First Aid certificate issued by the American Heart Association (or other approved entity), at the employee’s expense within thirty (30) days of employment
WORKING ENVIRONMENTThe work environment is typically in an indoor setting, adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated. While performing the duties of this job, the employee usually works among the various spaces within the Recreation Center facility. This position may be required to work at night and during the weekends and holidays as scheduled.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers dexterously to operate office equipment, including telephones, copiers, computers and keyboards. The Recreation Center Worker communicates orally in person and on the telephone; may sit for extended periods of time; as well as stand, walk, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally exert up to 45 pounds of force and may be required to drive or walk to other City or buildings. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to hear and to talk and communicate verbally in person as well as on a telephone to meet the essential functions of the position.
