RECREATION COORDINATOR – Recreation Fitness Center — Evening Hours
Salary Range: $34,650 – $37,000
The Blue Springs Parks and Recreation Department is seeking highly self-motivated professional to plan, organize and supervise the evening operations of the Blue Springs Fieldhouse, plan and coordinate various recreation programs and events and overseeing Facility Rentals.
Blue Springs, MO is a suburb of Kansas City, MO sitting on the eastern city limits and is a community of approximately 58,000 residents. The Department has been aggressively revitalizing parks and facilities over the last five years, investing over $18 million in improvements to current park facilities within the community. In April 2021, residents approved the renewal of a sales tax dedicated to park improvements, parkland development and operation subsidy. The measure passed with 80% approval, demonstrating the support the community has for the Parks and Recreation Department and the improvements made over the last five years. In the next two years the department will undergo a major transformation investing in the expansion of the Blue Springs Fieldhouse with a new indoor/outdoor aquatic facility. The expansion will provide the Department with new recreational opportunities to provide the community and provide staff with the opportunity for advancement with new positions being created over the next two years. The Department will also be constructing a new 50-acre community park and innovative improvements to playgrounds, trails, shelters, athletic fields, and several other park amenities over the 5 – 10 years.
The development of this new position is a result of the rapid growth of the recreation program opportunities that have been developed over the past 5 years. The department is seeking someone with a vision of excellence and a desire to build well-rounded recreational offerings. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to critically problem solve, develop quality programs and display exceptional customer service. This is a non-exempt position and the normal work schedule for this position is Sunday through Thursday from 1:00pm to 10:00 p.m. This position’s hours and schedule may be adjusted as programs require.
Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree is the minimum educational requirement but a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Recreation, or a related field is preferred; no experience is required but degree or work experience in recreation, leisure or related field is preferred.
