The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department is looking to fill multiple part time vacancies through the CaliforniansForAll Youth Workforce Development Program (CA4ALL). This program is intended to increase youth employment, and help address urgent challenges in their communities, while simultaneously learning key skills to develop youth interest in and experience towards a career. The experience and skills gained through this program will help these individuals develop into potential long-term public employees.
Please note, applicants who do not meet the CaliforniansForAll grant requirements will not be considered for the position.
The Position: As a Recreation Leader you will organize and lead a variety of recreation programs including cultural activities, youth sports, teen activities, aquatic activities, senior citizen activities, and park-centered programs.
The ideal candidate will be customer service focused with (6) six months of paid or (1) one year of volunteer experience in customer service or recreation programs.
Part-time Recreation Leaders work an average of 20 hours per week and are assigned to varied work shifts, including weekends.

The City of San Bernardino recognizes that there are many local children and adults with physical and behavioral disabilities who use our parks and facilities. As City employees, it is our duty to ensure the safety, security and satisfaction of everyone who uses the parks. Accordingly, duties of the all Parks, Recreation, and Community Services staff may at times entail assisting park visitors with physical and behavioral disabilities; this is similar to the duties of employees working in various capacities in the field of recreational therapy. Accordingly, these duties may occasionally become somewhat arduous (for short durations), but all employees are expected to execute their duties diligently, to the best their ability, for all users of the parks and facilities. Additional Parks and Recreation staffing support can be requested in those situations that warrant it.”
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Experience:
Six months’ paid experience in customer service or recreation programs or (1) one year of volunteer services in customer service or recreation programs.
Must be between 18 – 30 years of age.

Temporary, part-time and seasonal employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 to June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS retired annuitants. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in the City’s deferred compensation plan is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7.5% of their salary per pay period.
