Description/Duties & Responsibilities
Under the leadership of the Program Specialist, Project Technician, and Supervisor these positions will work directly with the Youth Sports Recreation Program to provide residents of the Santa Clarita Valley with a variety of quality recreational programs and events in a safe and fun environment.
This position may work up to 20 hours per week and is based on the needs of the Youth Sports Recreation Program. The final candidate must have the ability to work flexible hours including occasional nights, weekends, and some holidays.
Recreation Leader I
$16.71-$17.73/hour
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with staff to effectively provide quality recreation programs
• Assists in the implementation of programs, leagues, and events
• Provides customer service to program participants and the general public, including responding to public inquiries, providing accurate program information, and fulfilling customer needs over the phone, through email, and onsite
• Assists in maintaining program documents and files
• Assists in the operations, set-up, and clean-up of sports facilities and programs
• Assists with organizing supplies and equipment bags for staff and coaches
• Uses registration software to process registration and produce membership cards
• Operates City vehicles and equipment (must be over 18 years of age)
• Supervises children as assigned
• Responds to emergencies as needed; reports incidents and accidents to appropriate staff
• Organizes, prioritizes, and follows up on work assignments
• Communicates effectively with City staff
• Attends meetings and training sessions as required
• Performs other duties and activities as directed
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Six months of volunteer or paid experience in the field of recreation, including sports programming, facility operations, working with the public, or other related experience or training
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license is highly desirable
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certifications
• Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered
Recreation Leader II
$17.96-$19.05/hour
Recreation Leader II includes all of the responsibilities of the Recreation Leader I, in addition to the following:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists in the coordination of programs, leagues, and events
• Responsible for money-handling, including payments, close-out procedures, and refunds
• Opens and closes facilities
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• One year of volunteer or paid experience in the field of recreation, including sports programming, facility operations, working with the public, or other related experience or training
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license is required
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certifications
• Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered
Recreation Leader III
$20.02-$21.24/hour
Recreation Leader III includes all of the responsibilities of the Recreation Leader II, in addition to the following:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for the coordination of programs, leagues, and events specific to the recruitment of volunteer coaches, contract sport officials, oversight of programs such as Pee Wee Sports, Flag Football, T-ball and Coach Pitch Baseball, Volleyball, Cross Country, Track and Field, and Outdoor Recreation
• Creates and prepares marketing content for a variety of platforms, including social media content, flyers, and more, as well as captures photos and videos of programs at various locations
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Two years of volunteer or paid experience in the field of recreation, including sports programming, facility operations, working with the public, or other related experience or training
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license is required
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certifications
• Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered
Knowledge and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES FOR ALL POSITIONS:
• Knowledge of recreation and youth sports programming
• Knowledge of and ability to proficiently use computer systems, specifically Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Strong customer service skills and ability to handle conflict
• Ability to work with staff to effectively provide quality recreation programs
• Ability to follow and enforce City policies as they relate to the health, behavior, and safety of others
• Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and positively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner
• Strong team player that is able to work both independently and as part of a work group
• Ability to perform general office duties relevant to program
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including inclement weather
• Ability to lift, drag, push files, paper, documents, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds may be required; position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, etc.

In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 1,000 hours.
