Hiring Range: $55,000-$71,500 annually

The Role:
Thompson Rivers Parks and Recreation District is seeking a fun and energetic individual, who can help us provide a healthy, happy community through people, parks, programs, and partnerships! This individual oversees the Athletics Division; responsible for the athletic and recreation programs, managing the budget and seasonal employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages the daily ins and outs of the Athletics Division under the Parks and Recreation Director.
- Assists Parks and Recreation Director in planning, organizing, developing, scheduling and evaluating recreation and athletic programs.
- Manage the athletic budget, forecasting, and cost recovery reports.
- Assists with hiring, training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating part-time and seasonal personnel; assigns work as necessary.
- Acts as a liaison for volunteer requests from the community; recruit, train and supervise volunteer coaches and staff.
- Works in partnership with the Parks Manager of scheduling recreation facilities and the condition of facilities including preparation of fields.
- Conducts and attends a variety of training seminars, staff meetings, coaching clinics, and community meetings.
- Manages inventory of supplies and equipment; distributes supplies and equipment; orders supplies and equipment for recreation and athletic programs.
- Promotes effectiveness and efficiency using strong organizational, budgeting skills, internal controls, and risk management knowledge to accomplish the management goals and objectives.
- Establishes team rosters, schedules leagues and tournaments, enforces the rules, policies, and procedures and regulations of recreation and athletic programs.
- Provides clerical support, program registration, answer telephones, and maintains correspondence with other divisions or agencies; may respond to public inquiries about the facility.
- Oversees the development of classes, schedules, and implementation of activities, programs, and coordinates with other departments for facility usage.
- Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills.
- Effectively submit marketing requests for all recreational and athletic programs in accordance too required deadlines.
- Develops and submits seasonal brochure copy with the assistance of the Parks and Recreation Director by the required deadlines.
- Develops and evaluates recreational and athletic programs on a seasonal basis.
- Will manage and supervise staff on weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
- Will perform emergency custodial maintenance work. Sets up tables, sports equipment, chairs, and bleachers for classes and programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, physical education, social work, or closely related field
- 3-5 years’ experience in public recreation or any equivalent combination of education or experience. Experience in developing and managing youth and adult athletic programing.
- Obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Knowledge of word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and other recreation related computer software.
- Ability to learn recreation registration and management software.
- Considerable knowledge of developing and administering recreation and programs; working knowledge of the rules of a variety of sports.
- Ability to work in stressful situations; ability to stay calm; have excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
- Ability to participate in active sports and recreation activities; ability to organize recreation and athletic
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public, news media and other departments and agencies; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to direct the work of others.
- Ability to work independently in day-to-day operations.
