General Purpose
Director is responsible for organizing and instructing activities, keeping all necessary weekly records, supervision of staff, setting schedules, serving meals through the Federally funded Summer Food Services Program (SFSP) and communicating directly with Recreation & Nutrition Program Supervisor. Prior experience working in camps and/or teaching children is desirable. *40 hours per week

Essential Job Functions

  • Follow all departmental, Federal & State Meals Program and Delivery rules
  • Direct camp in accordance with State licensing regulations, if applicable.
  • Plan and coordinate day to day operations for camp program
  • Assist in the planning and instruction of the program.
  • Check area for safety hazards and report deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
  • Report all accidents occurring within jurisdiction to supervisor.
  • Administer proper First Aid as required.
  • Required to be on site 30 minutes before the program starts for set up and preparation.
  • Required to clean up at the end of the day.
  • Participate in the evaluation process.
  • Supervision of Recreation & Nutrition staff.
  • Responsible for communication with program families.
  • Position may require operation of City vehicle and/or personal vehicle to conduct City business

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Operation of a City vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct City business without providing proof of a valid driver’s license to Human Resources will not be permitted. A valid driver’s license shall be defined as a current state of residence-issued license to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways. Position also requires the ability to be covered under the City’s vehicle insurance policy prior to operation of any City vehicles or non-City vehicles for City business
  • Previous experience working with children in a group or individualized situation required.
  • At least an Associate’s Degree with experience working with children.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • College course work in Education, Childhood Development, Family Studies or Recreation Management preferred.
  • Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs.
  • Ability to deal effectively with discipline problems, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Knowledge of safety principles and practices as they apply to group activities.
  • Knowledge of a variety of recreation/leisure activities and group games.
  • A cooperative attitude and a team player.
  • Enthusiasm, patience, a desire to work with children and creativity.
  • Upon conditional offer of employment candidate must successfully complete background investigation.
