Overview

The Recreation Program Specialist creates, develops, and implements programs and services offered by the City’s recreation facilities. Coordinates logistics and provides program guidance for youth services, senior assistance, recreation programs, special events, and other services.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions

  • Creates, develops. implements, and provides oversight for programs and activities at small or large recreation centers; ensures programs, educational opportunities, sports teams, and classes for adults, teens, children, and the general community are effective and fit the surrounding needs.
  • Leads recreational activities, demonstrates a variety of sports procedures and techniques, and instructs participants in the rules of various games to ensure enjoyable and safe activities for adults and youth; provides direction for other Center Assistants and supports all programs within the recreation facilities.
  • Offers specialized program assistance for school programs to provide the youth of the community with organized recreational activities and educational assistance; cleans, maintains, and assists with program logistics to ensure smooth and safe operations.
  • Oversees the maintenance of records such as attendance reports and reports detailing number of ID cards issued or trash bags sold to enable monitoring of program participation and amount of revenue generated; maintains records of participants, accidents, and materials to keep accurate reports of daily activities.
  • Provides information to participants, and the public regarding the various functions of the recreation center
    including the variety of programs and classes offered for the benefit of the community; offers excellent customer service and direction.
  • Performs various administrative tasks on a daily basis to ensure the effective flow of services and offerings; processes registrations and other documents, disburses schedules, answers phones, and sells and issues trash bags and participant ID cards and ensures that funds collected are accounted for daily.
  • Transports youth to various field trips and special events to conduct recreational and educational camping
    activities.
  • Instructs participants and enforces the rules, regulations, procedures, and safety precautions of various games or
    activities to maintain progression of activities in an orderly fashion.
  • Provides outreach, creates marketing, and oversees the distribution of program materials of scheduled programs and events; attends health fairs, special events, and other community events to promote programs; generates calendars, lesson plans, and other marketing materials.
  • Performs any and all other tasks as needed or assigned.
