Description
The Garner Senior Center is seeking a creative, energetic team player to assist with developing, promoting, and conducting a variety of recreational programs and activities for adults 55 and over.
The 16,000 sq. ft. facility includes a multipurpose room, craft room, card room, lounge, dining hall, 2 catering kitchens, gym, fitness exercise room, and health consultation room.
Program offerings include gardening, arts/painting, education, cards and games, day trips, comprehensive fitness and dance classes, health and wellness programs, and competitive and non-competitive sports such as basketball, badminton, table tennis, and pickleball.
Examples of Duties
Plans and delivers recreation and cultural activities; researches, plans, coordinates, and implements programs for adults 55 and over, and performs associated office assistance tasks.
Plans activities, classes, and programs in assigned areas; figures costs; monitors registration, researches potential additional programs and events; purchases supplies and monitors budget.
Teaches and conducts classes and related activities; answers participant questions about events and concerns.
Works with the marketing team to design promotional materials and advertise programs; maintains participant statistics; maintains records for classes and activities.
Oversees activities; oversees work of contracted instructors.
Assists with recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising instructors and contractors; submits payroll.
Assures participant safety and security; calls for medical or law enforcement support when needed.
Oversees facility operations during events; assists with coordinating or scheduling building maintenance and room set-up; works with public rentals and use of space.
Assists other departmental staff with the details of special Town and departmental events;
Assists with department CAPRA accreditation and NC Senior Center of Excellence certification.
Operates a passenger vehicle for trips and outings.
Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in parks and recreation, sports management, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of recreation programming experience is required.
A driver’s license valid in North Carolina and a good driving record are required.
Applicants must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience programming for adults 55 and over.
Preference will be given to applicants who have earned the Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) credential.

The salary range shown is the hiring range. The starting salary will be determined based on the selected candidate’s skills and qualifications.
